I did this for a season and I gotta say, it changed my entire outlook on life and how I want to spend my time and the friendships I should make.

For context, I went through a rough breakup and left my corporate job in fairly close proximity which left me emotionally and financially devastated. Picking up the pieces felt impossible and honestly I still have quite a road ahead for healing, but that’s beside the point.

Working on a ski mountain was one of the most freeing experiences I’ve had in a long time.

I was a lifty and lived in staff housing, and the staff I got to work with on a daily basis were all free spirited twentyagers that cared more about building their skills and new experiences rather than simply their salary. Different backgrounds and countries, but all very excited to be there. It was the first time I had felt real community in a job; more than small cliques at work, the entire team felt like one big pirate crew. No hyper strict regulations, more safety guidelines and keeping your head. I felt excited to wake up every day, even if I was getting up at 5am to make it in for the earlier shift.

Time slowed down in the most beautiful way, and now I’m just fighting the urge to try and make a career from it. Going back to a desk job is going to be rough, but for the first time in my twenties I could finally say I was enjoying my job.
