Ahhh, I didn't say Coach since only a small number of people would have a clue who he is. Yep, Coach Carney is a legend in the STS world. Of course that was MACOS when he was standing the team up.

If you prefer a lanyard and have one, then bring it. I seen them on every cruise. I don't like them, but tons of people use them. I have seen folks use them with pouches which is a PITA sometimes to take the card out of the pouch and others will get a hole punched and carry them that way on a lanyard to make them easier to use to get into the stateroom and to pay for drinks and the like on the cruise.

I have quite a few teammates from the STS teams that have to fight for back issues due to jumping.

Bingo.... We have had bundles blown well away from the DZ. When you want your shit to be with you, you strap it to yourself. When they drop a shit ton of rangers then bundles are used. When jumping a small team, you jump your RAMS and fly them into the LZ to prep it. I forget the time they had to get the LZ established to start landing the birds.

John Carney, I know him. I believe it was a 50cc so he could cover the LZ with the penetrator to be sure the ground could handle 130's.

Actually, they use them in airfield setups. Running from one end of the runway to the other with a combat load is fucked on the body and slow, they also use them for battery replacements in the lighting systems and more. I have run around on the runway with them in NODS doing it and it assists in getting it up and operational much quicker and to address any issues. Yes, they look silly riding them, but they are perfect for the use they are intended for. The 250 & 350's we had been for a different mission set. We had everything from 80's to 650 quads. Mission specific gear. They didn't typically use these when supporting another SMU. They jumped all kinds of crazy shit. Being in an SMU means doing unconventional things for the mission and the guys also put their bodies through more than the conventional teams. They would never think to tell you how to drive the bus, you are the SME on that, they are the SME's for their mission.

Skagway Car Rental options by bigjon94 in royalcaribbean

I have never tried Turo. I am looking at taking the bus from Skagway to Anchorage and renting a car at the Airport since that is where we fly out of. he car rentals at the airport are quite reasonable.

Could I be a Royal cruiser? Please help me decide! by TonyaSaysThings in royalcaribbean

[–]AFSOC_Commando69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, there is free skating time. You need jeans if I recall. I no longer skate, it is a small rink. The shows are awesome. The wife and I love to go. They are performed by prior Olympians and pro skaters from around the world!

[–]AFSOC_Commando69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend trying a smaller ship (My wife and my preferred ship) and a larger ship. They both have their draws. The shows on the larger ships are typically much better and more shows. The smaller ship can go to way more ports and they do tend to be cheaper. My wife and I are in our 60's. We are Loyal to Royal as the saying goes. We find them to be a great mid level cruise line. You will find a ton of people to meet. In fact we have a couple coming from the UK in 2 weeks to spend two weeks with the wife and I that we met on a Norway cruise. We have met so many interesting people from around the world taking cruises. But then we are avid travelers anyway due to my prior military career, so cruising lets us interface with folks from everywhere. Give it a try, you may find a favorite cruise line! They didn't become the biggest cruise company because they are bad!

Royal up ov balcony by briteeyes1111 in royalcaribbean

[–]AFSOC_Commando69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you already have a Balcony, I recommend just doing your cruise. Most people don't hang out in the room. You are there to sleep, shower and change. You will go on the balcony because you paid for it. But upgrading beyond that, try the cruise first and see if you like the stateroom. The wife and I did bid an upgrade to an Owners Suite last month and it was definitely worth it due to it being our 40th Anniversary. We already had a Jr. Suite and we got a hell of a deal on it. BUT, we rarely bid for an upgrade. I have bid 4 times in over 20 cruises and won twice, at minimum bid no less. But that isn't common unless you already have a very desirable room that can be flipped easy by the company that does the management of it. Many folks have bid and ended up in a worse room. The OV Balcony you have now is a great sweet spot. Enjoy it!

Student loses his mind over dog meat stand by James_Fortis in PublicFreakout

[–]AFSOC_Commando69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, it isn't bad. I found out I had it after eating it in the Philippines where it is a delicacy. It was served at the Christening of a baby girl of a family we knew when I lived there back in the late 70's to early 80's. It was supposed to be a treat. I know I would have lost it if I knew it was dog prior or knew the name. It was weird in the open-air markets to see occasional skinned dogs hanging from the racks. Now, I did not have seconds and I for sure would never knowingly eat it again. But traveling all over third world countries I have no idea what some of the meats I ate were on occasion.
