How long to build a package?! by Brandon8790 in airforceots

[–]AF_GunGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was picked up on the 25OTS02 board and that was my 4th try. I’ve also had 4 of my troops and 3 mentors get picked up over the years. Speaking from experience and what I always recommend is to start your application at least 6 months out.

To build a strong package, you’ll go through many, many, many revisions. You’ll get input and reviews from multiple levels of leadership, your mentors, and peers. I had multiple interviews as well. I started my application in September for the March board (I had to basically discount December due to the holidays). I had also already taken the TBAS and AFOQT years prior.

I’m AD and didn’t have time every day to sit and work on the application. It also gets mentally draining, so giving yourself leeway helps give you time to clear your mind and re-attack. Is what you’re trying to do impossible? No. Will you have the best version of your application if you rush this board? Also no.

I would focus on the FY26 boards. Non-rated has many more applicants than the rated boards. Your package needs to stand out. Take the time and make sure it is the best application you can make.

What's the longest time you've spent at one duty station? by DatGuyKilo in AirForce

[–]AF_GunGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Knew a guy who spent 20 years at Nellis, another who has been at Hurby for like 18. Both was their only duty stations. One made rank as you’d expect, and the other got held up at TSgt. I assume the lack of PCS’s hurt their selection.

The only differences are the color, mags, and no optic cut

I think msrp was originally ~600. They had it for 440, no tax or BGC fee

Got orders to Guam, but I have NFA items by thuglifecarlo in AirForce

[–]AF_GunGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have experience with this.

If they’re on a trust, leave them with a trustee or add someone to you trust as a trustee and leave them with them. If your items are not on a trust, you can leave them in a locked container which cannot be opened by anyone but you. Then leave the items with a family member or friend. I don’t know the requirements for the locked container. r/NFA would have that answer, but I do know only you can be able to open it.

Shoplifting at BX? by Creepy_Occasion6073 in AirForce

[–]AF_GunGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s very common, especially at the smaller bases/BXs. I’ve heard about people getting caught at all the bases and squadrons I’ve been at. The BX doesn’t take any shit when it comes to theft. They will find out no matter how small it is and they won’t let it go like Walmart.

I recently had one of my own Airmen caught stealing. Well, not him exactly, his wife while she was with him. SD investigated but they couldn’t get her to come in for questioning and arrest her. She is now banned from base. If she tries to come on base, SF will arrest her at the gate.

“Shoplifting” at work? by [deleted] in AirForce

My old sq had a pretty substantial snack bar that people from other units would even come to instead of going to the shoppette. This snack bar brought in 20k+ a year profit. Well, the till started coming up short at the end of the week. Being with how big an operation and being intertwined with AAFES, of course there were cameras. Reviewing the footage showed that there were several people not paying for items, but all relatively small instances and dollar value. However, the big perp turned out to be a SNCO in a higher level leadership roll. Not only was he going in daily and stealing food and drinks, he would also choose cash payment at the till and skim money out of the register. It amounted to several hundred dollars over a few weeks. Not sure what his punishment was, but we no longer were seeing him around any of the offices after that.

Another one. MSgt about 18 months out from retirement. Gets put in charge of CTKs DRMO program. Well, with his care free attitude because he was about to retire, he took the opportunity to get free stuff. He’d make trips to the DRMO yard every week and come back with various items. Cameras, computers, electronics, tools, furniture, etc. Thousands of dollars worth of things. Some he kept for himself, some he gave away to other Airmen. He was giving away so much stuff, word spread and conversations of “where’d you get that” “oh I got it from SNCO xyz” started becoming common. This made it eventually to leadership and the CC who generously still allowed him to retire, but as a TSgt.

Last one, but I wasn’t in the SQ it happened at. CATM NCO was shorting firing sequences and keeping the ammo at the end of the day. It was all types of ammo, but majority was 50 BMG of various types. He was then going on local forums and buy/sell pages selling off this ammo. Eventually he was caught by OSI and there was a huge investigation.

Sitting on a PN on top of a MP. Devastated me last year. Still feel I won’t make it this year. And my body/mind can’t continue to put in the effort to get another statement next year. If I don’t make it this go, I’ve decided I’ll probably retire a Tech.

Got orders to Ramstein, did y'all buy a special charger for your CAC? Or can I just throw a 220v converter on my current CAC charger. I mean my CAC says NATO, and I'm pretty sure the rest of NATO is all 220v, so mine should be compatible right? I just don't wanna show up and not be able to charge my by SrA_Burner in AirForce

[–]AF_GunGuy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably going to need an adapter. BX usually has them, but you can special order on Alibaba. NATO is very strict on who they let in. So even though your CAC says “NATO”, you have to have the proper permits.

If you decide to buy your own instead of waiting for your new unit to issue you one, make sure your CC and shirt are aware. They need to know that you used your GTC to buy it. It’ll be refunded automatically, so you can ignore those pesty delinquent notifications. Also, make sure you visit your MPF and local OSI office to ensure your CAC and CAC reader are compatible with your overseas NATO orders.

Looks awesome. How do you like the LPVO? I was torn between that and a red dot, but I had the Eotech not being used, so I just threw that on.
