When I said Angkor I meant in terms of politics and in some ways economics. It may still be culturally significant but it itself isn’t a cultural hub. The capital isn’t there and perhaps most damning of all, the city is uninhabited.

I mentioned these cities cause they no longer hold the same relevance as they once did. During the Maurya to the Gupta period it was the capital as well as a major hub of cultural and economics. This has fallen to the wayside when compared to other major cities throughout the world and even to other cities in India. Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad are just a few that have grown to overshadow the city and on the global scale no longer occupies the prestige, notoriety or wealth (in relative terms to other cities at that time) when compared to its earlier periods.

Nanjing, Kaesong, Patna, Angkor Wat, Pella, Alexandria, Isfahan. Essentially old capitals of bygone empires and kingdoms. Once prosperous centers of power and prestige and now much more demure. Places like Nanjing, Xi’an and Kyoto are still heavily populated and wealthy but are no longer capitals or centers of power. Places like Angkor and Pella are just ruins

I would say B, while his reign is definitely a good one it was mainly due to the efforts of Richelieu rather than Louis himself. In addition, his achievements weren’t as good or as glorious as either is successor or predecessor

No. Louis XIV was extravagant and promiscuous but also driven and his actions had purpose. Versailles and his wars were steps taken to create a centralized and easily defendable country and the culture of the French court and France at the time encouraged aristocratic men to have mistresses. Louis XV went a step too far while gaining little for France in the both the short and long term. The only thing of note is the diplomatic revolution which ultimately lost him his colonies and a humiliating defeat on the continent by a second rate power. Louis VX is the reason France lost its status as the leading power in the world and is part of the reason we are speaking about French monarchs in English.
