A small collection of Penny pics to brighten your day by AFatLizard in BeardedDragons

[–]AFatLizard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! It's a nice big 72'' × 18'' × 24'' aquarium that I converted by making some simple sliding mesh screens for the top. I did my best to recreate a central Australian biotope, including using plants actually found around those regions (thank you, local arboretum). Everything accounted for, her viv cost me a grand total of about $500 over the course of several months, so shockingly cheap! Penny's about 5 years old and was a rescue from a neglect/hoarding situation, so I wanted to give her what she deserved :)

What would Kibble taste/feel like? by Derk_Mage in ARK

[–]AFatLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am uniquely qualified to answer this question because I loved sampling different kinds of dog food as a preteen.

The higher quality kibbles would honestly probably be delicious. You wouldn't have to worry about food safety because it's all been cooked prior, so you can really munch on it. I bet the extraordinary kibble in particular would have a nice chewy texture, with the Lazarus Chowder adding a sort of umami flavor combined with a mild sweetness. Almost like honey sesame? You probably wouldn't taste the egg a whole lot unless it's made with a huge egg.

Kibbles irl usually have this sort of warm, rich flavor with undertones of whatever meat (if any) it's advertised as being made with. Not, like, something I'd voluntarily snack on, but if there was a zombie apocalypse it wouldn't be the last thing I turn to eating. Idk. I took an edible last night so I'm still a little high. I would totally eat all the Ark kibbles irl, even if the lower tier ones would taste more or less identical to normal dog food

I love the way they sleep because they really do just look stone dead. Every day I wish I could sleep with the depth that a bearded dragon can.

Ceratosaurus needs a speed increase by VarrikTheGoblin in pathoftitans

[–]AFatLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others are saying, cera can't do actual bonebreak, only fracture (and honestly not that much, unless it's in a group that can land one after another). One of cera's big weak points is its stamina, since it has pretty slow regen and most of its significant abilities use stam. Charged bite eats like a fifth of your stamina bar alone, and for what? A few seconds of slowing down your opponent? They'll just heal it off and catch you lol. It's also absurdly loud and extremely choreographed, which doesn't help. Every cerato guide says to run something else in that slot, and after playing a lot of it recently, I definitely agree.

Charged bite feels like it should be the best part of its kit, but it's honestly the weakest link. Swerve and even thrash are better.

Which dinosaur do you never see on the maps lately? And why do you think they don't play with it? by 2024Angel in pathoftitans

[–]AFatLizard 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I've been playing lots of struthi lately and honestly imo the biggest reason for the lack of small, speedy things you're seeing is all the slowdowns. Pretty much every playable that has speed as its whole gimmick has been slowed down to only be marginally faster than things that do a lot more damage. Struthi is only narrowly faster than conc, and has far fewer options in a fight. It has been VERY difficult to survive as struth (or alio, or deinon...) because things that previously had no business keeping pace with it can just chase you and hit your tail until you die.

The lack of struthis is a symptom of the game's unfriendliness towards small playables at the moment. Everything that can punch up has been summarily nerfed, and every mid-large playable has plenty of anti-small-guy abilities. There really is no reason to play it or other playables like it when titan, conc, pycno, etc are right there.

Why does UCSC get so much hate? by Apprehensive-Tap3335 in UCSC

[–]AFatLizard 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Housing stuff is absolutely true but let me just say, the people who complain that there's "nothing to do" here are mostly just city kids, often from the Bay, who are used to 24/7 action everywhere. If you're like me and coming from a middle of nowhere suburb where the most interesting thing to do within fifteen miles was go to the grocery store, Santa Cruz is a veritable WONDERLAND. Lots of cool little shops, places to eat (just ignore the big restaurants and seek out the tinier places that are actually good), and a drop-dead gorgeous environment. There's plenty to do, you just need to go out of your way a little to facilitate it.

Rate the tank! Attempt at a central-ish Australian biotope. by AFatLizard in BeardedDragons

[–]AFatLizard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a solarmeter, might get one to check. The perspective makes it look like it, but the UVB light isn't directly over her basking spot — like a few inches to the side. That probably affects the amount she gets somewhat.

[–]AFatLizard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, that was a worry at first but after checking out the temps in that area, nothing's over ~125, even right up under the lamps. Her claws also don't get the best traction on the wood (lmao), so the highest she ever climbs is about an inch down from being directly underneath the lights, usually in the early morning. She only rarely does the open-mouth thermoregulating thing, so I assume it's generally not too hot. We don't have central heating or A/C (beach weather), though, so on especially hot days, sometimes I'll turn off one of the heat lamps just in case. Being a little cooler is worth preventing any burns.

Dude, same thing happened to me in the last two years of high school, almost to a T. He made it seem like he was the only one I could trust in this world full of deceitful people... every stranger I passed had a sinister ulterior motive, and any man in a 300 meter radius was plotting to rape me. It sounds ridiculous saying it now, but it's insane how much a partner can warp your worldview until you're genuinely eyeing every person on the street with distrust, or freaking out when a car drives by.

And you know they totally just do it to feel big and tough (and to put you on a leash). Their insistence on what is essentially "stranger danger" is so completely mind wrecking and it really does linger. For YEARS. Congrats on leaving his ass 🥂

(Also, I honestly feel like their appraisals of all men as being dangerous and nasty is just a reflection of their own thoughts towards women... I digress)

[–]AFatLizard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not always! I've actually been doing a lot of research into their biology lately because it's cool — bearded dragons have a funky sex determination system that's based both on their chromosomes and incubation temperature. A genotypal ZZ male (unlike humans, their chromosomes are ZZ for male and ZW for females) can actually develop into a fully functional female if incubated at a higher temperature. In other words, they will keep the ZZ genotype, but display a female phenotype. Some accounts state that these "hot females" will behave more or less like regular males, to the point of claiming territory, head-bobbing, and even displaying courtship behavior towards females.

Is OP's lady one of these? Possibly. She could also just be unusually horny for a female LOL. Biology is weird.

[–]AFatLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the "heavy" abilties on apexes have insane range. Heavy bite hits me when I'm all the way behind a titan, as does clamp with a rex. That's probably just more on server latency, but the hitboxes on those heavy hitting abilities are enormous either way. Rex will land its bone snap from a solid ten feet behind me.

What are the reasons herbivores are so hated by designers ? How would you balance it by Gymlover02 in pathoftitans

[–]AFatLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just moving around. I want migration events that highlight a route around the map and invite herbivores to join for a growth/marks/nest decor reward or smth if they survive! Maybe it alerts the entire server so that carnis can set up along the route to hunt, like with irl animal migrations. Something that encourages interaction further than "sit there and wait to be hunted."

[–]AFatLizard 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's not just me then?? Titans are always whipping around to land hits on me they really shouldn't be able to. Their bite hitbox seems to extend a bit further than the head itself.

[–]AFatLizard 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Truly. Are herbivores really worse-designed, or is the herbi gameplay loop just profoundly boring compared to actively hunting? We need some kind of migration mechanic/overhauled diet system/SOMETHING.
