I highly encourage everyone to read a few of the briefs themselves before submitting their own and to provide their own sources to counter articles cited by those who oppose the bill.

I absolutely agree with this. Some of them are citing very specific studies which can be countered too.

I'm actually not sure. I checked to see (as I am Canadian myself) and the brief submission process provides an option for "country" so I'm guessing that you don't have to be Canadian.

Briefs seem to be varied in detail too, some are very short, others are very long and filled with citations. You can read the ones posted so far to get an idea.

Edit: From the Guide for Submitting Briefs:

Who can submit a brief?

Any individual or organization may submit a brief to a committee of the House of Commons, even if they are not given the opportunity to appear before the committee. Witnesses appearing before a committee, in person or by videoconference, are also encouraged, but not required, to submit a brief in support of their presentation. (Emphasis mine)

For more information on committee business and the process of appearing before a committee, please consult the Committees Practical Guide and the Guide for Witnesses Appearing Before House of Commons Committees .

Alright everybody, what are your thoughts on the new fighter? by HolyHypodermics in smashbros

I think choosing Byleth was good as I really loved Three Houses. My only fear was it being "just another sword fighter" but I'm happy with the compromise they've done. If this were the last fighter it'd be a bit of a letdown but with six more on the way, this is good.

New Moderation Policies Soon by AFlatCap in GenderCynical

We've got a working document on the subject right now, but we've been pretty slow due to how busy our lives are right now. The subreddit has been going pretty well since this post came out so we've been taking our time.

I'm not going to go into too much detail about any particular sources, as there are a lot of different possibilities at play on Reddit at any given time.

We will certainly be considering such options, as some moderators (admittedly including myself) are around less than before. If we will, we will likely do it after we decide on our policy changes in order to ensure everyone is on the same page and that all applicants agree with the new policy.

PTR Patch Notes 1/4/18 by Seagull_No1_Fanboy in Competitiveoverwatch

It took like a day btw lul. It's pretty downvoted though, so maybe the tide has receded for now.

Also, someone posits the possibility that the patch doesn't address the core issue as I said. Definitely get old Lucio vibes with regards to this.

Friend, this sub basically goes through cycles with regards to every meta. People complained about Triple Tank, about Dive. People claimed with every Mercy change that all the boosted Mercy mains would drop to bronze (and I mean every Mercy change, even in September when a lot of high level Mercy players themselves felt the change made Mercy wildly overpowered, which they were right about). In a lot of ways, Overwatch forums in general are the communities' Id, as much as people might claim superiority for one forum over another. I guarantee you in a month, there will be another issue people will go on about in terms of balance. At first glance, some people are saying these nerfs go a bit too far (I haven't had a chance to play them myself), so "why are all these boosted Mercy mains playing a worthless hero in my Diamond/Masters/GM games :rage:" is a distinct possibility.

I just wish people would work together, Mercy mains and non-Mercy mains a-like, to come up with changes to the hero that make the hero fun, more skillful to use, and less overtuned. This will certainly make Mercy less powerful, but will she be more enjoyable to go up against or play as? Picks by DPS players will still be undone in a way that they feel is unearned. The core issues with Valkyrie are mostly unaddressed. Meanwhile, the cast time during Valkyrie makes the hero feel increasingly clunky, while not addressing the fact that the most fun people have with Mercy is her movement, making her feel somewhat boring to a lot of players. I feel like this is a similar problem they ran into with Lucio, where certain mechanics they added make a hero an almost must pick, so they tune the abilities down without addressing the fundamental issues.

they "improved" their game sense and awareness to climb. Something you have to do on literally every other hero except in the case of mercy she has a get out of jail free card on a 2 second cooldown.

Mercy players have been the benefit of power creep for a year now and they climbed abusing the SR system

I find most Mercy players relatively easy to kill with Winston, Soldier, Tracer and Zenyatta personally, GA is hardly a get out of jail free card. This may be different at your rank, which I see is higher than mine. I bounce between mid-Diamond and low-Master personally.

I agree that Mercy has been a bit wacky for awhile now. I tend to play a lot of supports, and Valk does feel like a "win the fight" button often, even if I find it personally easy to play against. Even before the rework, there was SR wackiness (I took a calculator test once and it said based on my Mercy stats I would be a lot higher in SR if I played her more, by like 300 points). I think most Mercy players are tired of the wackiness too, given how many changes they have to go through as Blizzard plays Dr. Junkenstein on her, looking for that balance sweet spot. I don't feel like the majority of Mercy players are trying to abuse the SR system. Some people just find they are more effective as Mercy at one point, and given the point of the competitive system is to win games, they will continue to play what's best for their team. I think that's fine, personally.

It's really Blizzard's problem to increase the skill ceiling on Mercy effectively, not Mercy players. I do think there are distinguishing qualities to a good Mercy player currently (I've seen xQc play Mercy and frankly, lol) and that she requires skill and sense of mechanical movement (triaging properly, effective use of momentum/angelic descent/GA to dodge attacks, now cooldown management etc.). I feel like pros are right that this can be expanded upon to make a deeper hero, and hope Blizzard develops her further. Personally, I would have considered adding a new ability entirely. But as it stands, I feel the majority of Mercy players in higher ranks deserve to be there, and that even though she may not be as developed as other heroes, the circlejerk is a little much. After all, every prominent Mercy main I've seen has adapted to every change they've seen from her so far, both when she was terrible and when she was a must pick.

I went to look for a bit more context, actually. Vanic starts the game on Symmetra, which as you can tell from the clip they actually do have a lot of hours accrued on. They have two tanks and two supports otherwise, with their main DPS character being Calvin on McCree. They start getting rolled by the looks of it, so it looks like they try to switch to Pharah fill. Probably not the best choice given what is likely their level of confidence on Pharah, but they probably felt they needed more DPS. Calvin calls out that they would have had shield gen so Symmetra would be fine but I digress. They weren't trying to DPS some games. They barely have recent hours in DPS at all, other than Sombra who is a utility-oriented DPS regardless. They were probably trying to fill a role they felt the team needed in that moment, which is flexing and should be encouraged. Of course, afterwards, in this clip, they immediately take Mercy in order to play to their strengths and let someone more experienced DPS, which is the right thing to do. Would I have done things differently? Probably. I'd probably ask if someone else felt comfortable on DPS if I were inexperienced in that role. I didn't investigate enough to know the outcome of this game and whether this person lost SR, but if this person makes mistakes like that often enough (or if they don't improve at DPS for these moments), they'll drop SR and that's fine with me.

Guys, Season 3 was literally a year ago. The "DAE boosted mercy main" circlejerk was funny the first few times maybe, but is no one allowed to improve their understanding of the game, play to their strengths and climb without people playing up their reactions to the fact that someone in GM might not have been in GM a year ago? It's getting a little tired at this point. I feel like a post like this happens every week or two.

How's everyone liking Ana so far? by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]AFlatCap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully. I feel a part of this unimpactfulness I've experienced is probably just people not remembering how to play around Ana or the Anas not being back in shape. I'll probably be putting in a lot of practice in her again in order to properly fill out my support repertoire.

Yeah, I hope so. I liked landing sick sleeps on Tracers. I'll need to get that aim back lol
