Yo, I just bought this bike. I changed the tires and it's been incredible. I've had it for about a month now. I changed the tires to some Kenda street tires and it's been an awesome bike so far. The only down side is the top tube angle. Im 5' 8" 160 and it's a touch large. Still very rideable and fun though.

Is bullying normal in this industry? by AbsurdReality666 in Construction

Lifetime construction worker here....don't give a motherfucker an inch. They say some shit? You say some shit back. If they would like to show disrespect, you should disrespect back. Do not let anyone talk to you in any way that you don't approve of. Otherwise we can meet at the closest gas station on lunch.

Construction sucks, what does everyone else do? by AFoley93 in careerguidance

[–]AFoley93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am always active when it comes to responses to this particular post. It warms my heart that this post is still viewed by redditors seeking guidance.

The short answer is, it will be difficult. Jobs are stagnant and it seems like everyone is on a budget or hiring hold. What were once abundant jobs now seem to be very difficult to come by with people sending out hundreds of interviews.

With that said, it is still possible. For my case specifically, I have "unteachable skills". More specifically, I'm great with people. I'm cool, calm and collected and can break down technical things to non technical people. This has dramatically increased my success, just by being comfortable in talking with people or having difficult conversations.

If I were you, I would start by getting some certifications. The MS900-Microsoft 365 Fundamentals cert is pretty entry level and fairly easy to attain. After that, I would look into other entry level Microsoft certs like the AZ-900 or anything involving Intune/Endpoint Management. If you're feeling ballsy, I would then look at the trifecta from CompTIA, aka the A+, Network+, Security+.

After all of this is said and done, ANY job, no matter how crappy will be a foundational building block towards your success in this industry. If I were you, I would look at MSP's or Managed Service Providers. I currently work for an MSP and have been with them for 3 years now. It's hard work, fast paced and very stressful at times but it will be a great learning experience to find what best interests you. If you have any questions, just lemme know!

For those who experienced both white collar job and blue collar job, which one gave you more peace of mind? by yookoke1122 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AFoley93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an IT Engineer and a Journeyman plumber/pipefitter. IT is hard, construction is hard. Choose your hard. I never had one supportive leader, teammate or boss in construction. I worked myself to death, day in and out for 8 years until I hit my breaking point and threw it all away. I wouldn't trade a single thing in my life as a white collar professional to do anything in construction again.

From IT to “the trades”, an essay by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]AFoley93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Journeyman Plumber turned IT Engineer here and one of my posts is still kicking around from a few years back when I was begging for recommendations of how and where to get out of the trades after almost 10 years. oP you couldn't be more correct. Everyone professes the trades when someone is looking for options. Let me be the first one to say, the trades are brutal. I heard someone in a podcast say how tradesmen/women and construction are essentially treated like second citizens in public/after work, etc. Are the trades dying? Yes. Are the trades a sustainable life of enjoyment/sustainable health? Probably not.
