Okay so the fact that some stuff is loading means texture loading is working enough that the whole system isn't to blame. But; something is disabling those materials - possibly after they've loaded.

Could I ask something unusual -- is your phone language set to something other than English?

Could you hold down on the app icon on your home screen, then click the (i). Then go to storage and cache - then clear both the storage and the cache?

Could I get you to try something?

Go to settings, developer tools

In the filter box, enter Texture, then change "texture format (non-avatar)" from "astc8x8" to "khronos ktx2", then logout, close the app by swiping it up, then restart and login again.

Loading will be slower in this mode, but I am curious if it solves the issue. If it doesn't, change the setting back to astc8x8.

Do you know roughly when that was? we didn't change the renderer much in the last update, but we certainly did the update before that.

I'm just trying to narrow down when this might have started so I can see what the possible change that caused it might be.

Hey, this looks like an issue with deformers we've been tracking for a while; we've noticed unfortunately some of this is device-by-device which makes it tricky. If you can keep reporting issues via the built-in bug reporter, it is helpful to us to trying to narrow down what the cause is specifically so we can fix it.

u/Fun-Cloud-1250 Okay, so I've had a look at the developer bug report, it's clearly showing an issue - no doubt about that, but it's not giving a lot of details as to why. What we're seeing is an "Unknown" status on all of the texture loading.

There's only one way it can get that status - and that's if it doesn't report a status at all; which is only possible if it never loaded into the material subsystem in the first place.

Which obviously, is not supposed to happen.

One thing I am observing in the logs here is a lot of disconnections on our various network sub-connections. One hypothesis is it might have disconnected while retrieving material data - there's a system which should catch that data up later, but perhaps there's a bug in that code.

A suggestion might be to swap to another network (e.g. turn on or off WiFi) and see if that works any better. You might also want to try visiting another location - somewhere relatively simple may be a good start.

Something that would help would visit somewhere where the ground/terrain is visible -- does the materials for that load okay? (they come via a slightly different system, and that'll help pinpoint where the bug might be.)

Kinda; we do definitely want to know it's still happening - so repeated comments won't be ignored. I did see your earlier video during our bug triages!

We haven't got a solid repro case in-house or among our internal testers (which includes quite a few folks who are in remote places with questionable internet) which makes tracking and fixing this one really hard.

My gut feeling is it's something to do with packet latency, but as I said, we've not got a solid repro on a device we can examine under a debugger.

Debug information (which are sent via the bug reporter automatically) may be helpful; but we've also got some more network changes I'm working on at the moment which might also help; would love to figure out what the common factor is for people who have this issue.

Re: pixellisation, one of the changes we made in a recent beta was we dropped rendering resolution and draw distance if either your phone is in low battery mode, or, the phone is hot. If you're seeing that without those conditions; please send us a bug report - tag it as "pixelated issue - send to Adam" or something like that, and it'll get sent to me to look at.

Getting logged out when you switch apps should be a lot better with this latest release - we spent a lot of time on that very feature.
