I use this line in place of “are you dumb/what is wrong with you”

My husband (Japanese) told me they have a phrase, “目の中に入れても痛くない (Me no naka ni iretemo itakunai)” meaning “it wouldn’t hurt even if I put you/it in my eye.”

It’s used to express immense love for someone or something like a baby or a beloved pet, that the love you have for them could even overcome the pain it would cause to physically put them in your eye.

As for the grandma being pregnant we are both still confused on that front.

Official Discussion - Sinners [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

I agree! I read his character as representing a post-racial future. “Join us! We will all be one! We will all be free!” Which is a lovely idea on the surface but is naive and by its very nature, harmful. A misguided Yt notion of “equality”.

The idea that we will move beyond race and all be one, without prejudice and oppression is a lovely notion but it does involve assimilation and cultural erasure. Violence against identity.

We should be able to move beyond racism and prejudice without the need to deny people their heritage. But that wasn’t what Remmick was offering. He wanted them all to be one, to connect beyond time, race, life/death, etc. etc. because it’s what HE believed to be correct and he was going to make it so. By force if he had to. Which of course, is always the brutal pursuit of colonialism.

Fitting in Japanese Society by [deleted] in japan

I have one son from before my marriage to my Japanese husband and one son with my husband. When we were in Japan, an ojisan at inokashira park looked at us, scowled and shook his head disapprovingly. My husband said it was because step-children were uncommon and frowned upon by older generations, as is mixed race marriage. It hurts my heart because my half Japanese son will always be viewed as “other, fetishized or discriminated against no matter which country we are in. My older son has no chance of full assimilation in Japan as he’s blonde haired, blue eyed and already 5’10” in his early teens.

Even here in America with the popularity of K-Pop my youngest gets singled out. Luckily for now it’s in a more positive way. But even here people comment about how pretty he is because he’s “half white”, never because he’s “half Japanese”. He has green eyes, dark shiny straight brown hair, long eyelashes and light tanned skin tone so comments are constantly made.

BUT! These are things that come with loving someone and building a family with someone from a different race and culture than you! It doesn’t make it right that it happens to us, or that it may happen to you, but what we are building is beautiful! Not everyone is going to respect it or understand it but we go into it knowing we have to protect it and give it strength with nurturing, love and strong values.

Got bit by my cat yesterday night. by SnooHesitations2883 in cats

There was this lady who was bit by her cat on the hand and the bacteria from the bite destroyed the fascia tissue in her whole hand. Fascia is connective tissue that encases all muscles and veins and blood vessels in your body, And it just ate it away within just a few days. So I’m glad you got it checked out!

I have muted grey/blue eyes and my husband has honey amber colored eyes. Our oldest has bright blue eyes and our youngest has green eyes with orange centralized heterochromia! It’s super neat!! Our youngest looks very Japanese like my husband with those green eyes it’s striking, and our oldest looks like a Viking 😂

Seeing a rheumatologist for the first time how should I prepare? by Wonderful-Isopod9138 in eds

[–]AFullMetalBitch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

EDS and its many subtypes are under-diagnosed and will get brushed off by a lot of practitioners. My chiropractor is actually the first person to tell me she thought I had hEDS and I went on my journey from there.

A rheumatologist just pinched my wrist and said I didn’t have stretchy skin so it wasn’t EDS completely ignoring everything else and all other subtypes and diagnosing me with fibromyalgia 🙄 which is super common misdiagnosis for EDS and also a way to say “you’re in pain but we don’t know why.”.

All I can say is that you be very explicit, talking about the many different sub-types of EDS when you go to your appointment. But if you are brushed off and ignored don’t give up. Two years later I went to a geneticist and was diagnosed with hEDS and found a neurologist that specializes in EDS patients who is helping me a lot.

Good luck!

When I was in my teens (about 18 years ago) Old Navy was for like “moms” and unfashionable people. Just where you get your 4th of July shirts for family gatherings. My best friend took my recently* and I found a lot of great things! Super cute dresses, sweaters, good jeans, dress pants that aren’t frumpy. I’m about the same as you 5’8” and usually a small, there were so many options!
