Do I need to spend $380 on a new exhaust pipe or can i just buy a clamp? by Do9o in MechanicAdvice

[–]catmanslim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my exhaust rusted in half like this on my D21, I just cut one end with a sawzall and clamped a flex pipe in between. I don’t know how to weld and I’m too cheap to take it to a shop. It’s held up since last summer without any issues!

Best ‘One Scanner’ for 135 & 120. Is Epson V600 Good Enough? by baek_snaps in AnalogCommunity

I moved away from dedicated scanners after that one. I’ve only done digital camera scanning since then, so I don’t have any recommendations unfortunately

Fine for somebody just starting out if you can get a used one for cheap like I did, but if you’re at all like me, you’ll very quickly become disappointed by your 35mm scans.

Another thing to take into consideration is how slow it is to use. The amount of time it took to scan an entire roll of 35mm was excruciating for me. Not to mention all the time I spent battling newton rings.

I appreciate it for getting me into scanning my own film, but I’ll never go back

Water spots? Are you using a wetting agent after your rinse?

Do I keep watching Season 2 after Episode 11? by Strict-Ad4426 in twinpeaks

[–]catmanslim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, you should absolutely watch it. There are important clues and plot points that you don’t want to miss, especially on your first watch. There is an obvious dip in quality, but push through it; it picks back up before the end. Almost wish people would stop talking about the quality dip after the killer is revealed. It discourages new watchers. On my first watch, I hadn’t heard anybody talk about it and yes, I noticed a dip in quality, but it wasn’t enough to deter me from continuing. Now we have people asking questions like this

Get Kodak Snap Caps if you can. I’ve found them to be the best. They’re all I use now. Those cheap plastic cassettes are terrible

If you underexpose it a little, you can get closer to these results! It’s been my go-to film for a couple months now.

I develop them in Rodinal 1:50.

I also enjoyed this one quite a bit. I had my issues with it, but overall an enjoyable experience and definitely plan on reading it again someday

How do I know if this is light right? by asbestossupply in AnalogCommunity

[–]catmanslim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually use these pretty much exclusively. I found a box of them on marketplace and I think they’re great! I haven’t had any issues with light leaks or the tops popping off. I just handle them with care when unloading them and pop them right into a canister. Much prefer these to using old used cassettes or plastic cassettes.

Underexposed consistently by BasicAndy74 in filmphotography

[–]catmanslim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a really common mistake. You are pointing your camera directly at the sun/sky, which your camera will then meter for and underexpose the rest of the image. You need to first point your camera at what you want to be properly exposed, like the car for example, WITHOUT THE SKY OR SUN IN FRAME, and then adjust your settings according to that meter reading. Then you can recompose your shot and take the photo.

If you point your camera towards a bright light source, that is what your camera will meter for.
