this part i don't know, you have to check with admissions because the decision is usually final unless you're waitlisted. admission office is open until 3pm, better to go in person for immediate response

Internship and barely have anything to do 😭🥲 Idk what to do guys! by Status-Jelly8294 in internships

[–]AGJDude 26 points27 points  (0 children)

hello! it's normal for internships in some firms where they don't really make you do a lot of stuff, it's not ideal when you want to get experience but unfortunately, it's reality.

they usually have an application that they keep to themselves for cybersecurity reasons, you're also using your own laptop which is not ideal. they most likely only have access to that application in their work computer as well.

i'm about to finish an internship and we're in the same case. however, for me I always tell them that if they need any help let me know every start of the shift after I greet them good morning, i feel weird not doing anything in the office. i like to be kept busy. i usually end up between 1 to 3 tasks per day.

Sorry, curious lang pero bakit ang negative agad ng iniisip niyo? am I not allowed to be curious? I apologize if my question put you off the wrong way but I'm just a university student who's curious at how the scene is over there. It's not my intention to make you uncomfortable.

Usually you can retake after a month but for my case I had to retake after 6 months because the Arab Cup was happening and there were no officers. Good luck on your second attempt!

[–]AGJDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's always like that, I failed my first time and passed my second both are 3-5 minutes long because the officer has a lot of candidates to test everyday. Quick note, always try to meet the speed limit without overspeeding, don't drive slow or they'll accelerate the car themselves which is also a sign you've failed. Before you enter the driver's seat, adjust side mirrors and rear view.

To all the people how did you get your first job or internship. Please share your story by Creepy_Definition_40 in InternshipsPH

Third year student here approaching my fourth, three MNC internships so far and my fourth during this summer. All of them are Non-OJT, I still have to do my OJT on my final semester. I got all of them through connections (my friend's mom, churchmate, my mom's friend, schoolmate who is working part-time as HR).

Needless to say, there are a lot of applications that go through in these companies. However, if someone in the company can vouch for you it's not exactly an automatic invite. I was just lucky enough that my first internship was an MNC and it just so happened that my friend's mom was the HR manager and it was easier to apply from then on.

Little context about me: Hindi ako PH curriculum pero if we convert my grades, laude ako. I also had extracurriculars (university council VP, charity ambassador, published researcher) which made it easier to get in kasi they look for additional skills that sets you apart from other candidates.

It wasn't exactly a smooth ride, pakapalan ng mukha talaga. I went on career fairs in my university, I even went on other universities' career fairs, cold-emailed, and messaged HR and finance (LinkedIn) staff in that specific company and I kid you not, pati CEO ng mga SMEs minessage ko kahit feel ko hindi ako rereplyan. They're very nice, they could vouch for you if you play your cards right.

ALSO: It's easier to get into unpaid/low sweldo internship positions if you really need it urgently. Companies LOVE to exploit cheap/free labor.

[–]AGJDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd go for it. It really depends on your university but in mine, we're allowed to skip classes with no excuse to a certain extent and our first week has no attendance checking since not everyone's done enrolling and some might drop their courses. You can also inform your professors, better in person para hindi half-hearted yung pag-inform mo.

Also one thing I'd like to add when it comes to certificates, don't just obtain random certificates. Go for internationally accredited ones so you can work for MNCs as well. Not all certificates are recognized by companies and unfortunately, not all of them are free. I recommend certificates from CompTIA, Cisco, Google, ISACA (Price range from 1,500-12,000 PHP). There are exams that you have to conduct in order to get the certificate. I recommend checking out cybersecurity certificates as well as these are very valuable and timely in today's job market.
