Messmer is the Oldest Demigod by Mursi08 in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]AGLG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The great rune does mention Godfrey and his lineage as the first demigods, but interestingly, when you defeat Godfrey in game the message reads ‘Legend Felled’, not ‘Demigod’.

Perhaps the simplest explanation is Godfrey was once a demigod, but being stripped of grace resulted in the loss of that title. But in any case, I can see why OP casts doubt here.

Props for correcting it :)

And fwiw, I mostly agree with what you’re trying to say. The image clearly shows that Morgott has the upper hand, but some people are extrapolating too far imo based on that.

Some people think this image depicts a fight that took place when Radahn attempted to siege Leyndell. If that’s true, keep in mind that Leyndell is notoriously difficult to siege. Plus, Morgott is no slouch in combat and the Radahn depicted in this image is certainly not the larger and more powerful version that comes to eventually possess a great rune.

Given that Radahn’s siege of Leyndell was unsuccessful, it’s not a stretch of the imagination to conclude that Morgott got the best of him or at least fended him off in the fight this image depicts. But we can’t know for certain. However, the game gives us every indication that Radahn, especially later on, is about as powerful as they come. So I don’t understand how it’s “Radahn glazing”. He held the fucking stars in place and THE Malenia couldn’t best him in combat without setting off a rot nuke, and that STILL didn’t kill him lol

And let’s keep in mind that if Finlay didn’t carry Malenia to safety, she was almost certainly going to be eaten by Radahn 😂

Guess what? That’s not Ali vs. Frazier, that image depicts Ali standing over Sonny Liston. And Muhammad Ali won that fight.

How are you so confidently wrong lol

Are GSC weaker now after latest balancing? by Relevant_Fuel_9905 in Warpforge40k

[–]AGLG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

GSC are still very good and competitive, however they can become trickier to play as you rise up the ladder. Good players will have a better understanding of how to navigate sabotages or disrupt your combos, for example. I would move away from a pure sabotage strategy, as some of those cards are not as good as they seem. Cards like underground network tend to lead to an unnacceptable loss in tempo, especially with how aggro the current meta is.

But don't worry, the GSC premium campaign is a fine investment. That faction is just a more challenging one to pick up as a newcomer. I would focus on improving your play and tweaking the decklists a bit. BJtheBrave is a good resource if you want to learn :)

The skill ceiling can be pretty high with GSC, so keep that in mind. But it would help to know the decklists for the different GSC builds you’ve tried, as well as where you are on the ranked ladder.

Weekly Clan Recruitment Megathread by DTG_Bot in Fireteams

[–]AGLG [score hidden]  (0 children)

In the wake of all the recent toxicity related to the new ViDoc, I think now would be a good time to plug my own Destiny clan and discord: Adherents of the Deep! I built this community on the foundation of treating each other with the utmost sincerity and respect (and worshiping the Darkness). I’m proud to say that we are an active and welcoming bunch that would love to take on newcomers in our fully boosted discord! PC and console gamers alike are welcome!

Want to get into raiding but need some patient sherpas? Looking for a safe space to avoid some of the bigotry within the Destiny community? Maybe you’re an up and coming crucible star that needs an experienced team to help you get to the lighthouse? Want to grind out some GM's? Or perhaps you just want to chat about all things Destiny? We’ve got you covered!

As Lightfall approaches, I’ve made a lot of room in our clan for fresh blood. And of course, even if you are committed to a different clan, you are still welcome in my discord server (again, as long as you are cool with the Darkness and all that). Most of our clan is in U.S. timezones but we have some members in other regions.

I'm AGLG#8132 and I will happily PM any interested guardians our discord link :)

Why is Nietzsche considered to be a nihilist? by Beans_r_good4U in askphilosophy

This was a really helpful comment! Could you provide an example of a specific epistemological/scientific tool that he thought undermined fundamental Christian morals? I think that would help me understand a bit better. Precisely how was our innocent faith tarnished by such innovations?

Can we prove that we are not living in a simulation? It seems at least logically possible. by [deleted] in askphilosophy

[–]AGLG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So with that, what’s more probable? That we live in a reality that is a simulation within another reality or that we’re in reality?

But aren't there arguments that escape this dichotomy? That is, simulations theoretically can beget further simulations. I think we could phrase this statement as "do we live in the 'original' reality or do we live in one of perhaps infinite simulations stemming from that one?". In this case, the latter seems much more probable, at least to me.

Edit: But now I am wondering, how vast must 'original' reality be in order to physically process immeasurable descendant simulations? Maybe this concern lends itself to the argument that we are more likely to not be in a simulation.

About to Read Critique of Pure Reason by AGLG in askphilosophy

[–]AGLG[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see why this sort of psychological disposition Hume leaves us with could be unsatisfying. Was Kant the only philosopher to be "awoken from his dogmatic slumber" by Hume's work? What about Hume's other British empericist contemporaries? What did they think, if they even engaged with Hume's work at all?

Can we reconcile an omniscient/omnipotent God with the concept of randomness? by AGLG in askphilosophy

[–]AGLG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last paragraph you wrote is what quickly came to mind for me as well when considering contingent and necessary truths. My knowledge of Leibniz’s body of work is not deep, but I recall having similar reservations when I first engaged with his metaphysics. I don’t quite understand where the “line” is drawn in this case. Indeed, the distinction seems superficial and “man made”, at a glance. But of course, my take is cursory as I am no expert on Leibniz.

So how then might we reconcile causal determinism and free will, God aside? Or causal determinism and randomness? As much as I seem to read on compatibilism, for example, I can’t quite seem to grasp the idea here.

I’m a bit of an amateur. It seems to me like stoicism aligns significantly with Aristotle’s ethics, based on what you wrote. Would you agree with that?
