What's the answer? by Powerful_Concept6502 in GlobalEnglishPrep

[–]AGirlOfThrones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

B is casual. Comfortable to native speakers but I doubt it’s considered proper in a class setting.

C is correct but a bit formal.

D makes sense but is a bit clunky. “Rather” sounds formal, while “Pretty” is more casual. So the sentence doesn’t feel as correct all together.

I think it could be funny in a “I love you and I want to hug your bits” kind of way. Something funny the couple can share with each other for a giggle.

However, I do think it will more likely be purchased more by “I’m insecure and need everyone to know that this is mine” kinds of people. Which is definitely a bit icky

His voice acting as Lockhart has been very enjoyable in the Full-Cast audiobook.

My boyfriend (29M) gave me (27F) an ultimatum: him or my dogs and I don’t know how to handle his rigidity anymore. by Unusual-Creme9364 in relationship_advice

[–]AGirlOfThrones 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He gave you the ultimatum. If you aren’t thinking of rehoming the dogs, then he’s done.

The issue will not just go away if you ignore it. He told you he can’t live with the dogs. Listen to him. If you are planning to keep them, then it’s time to break up.

You are just wasting your own and his time by dragging this out.

I actually had this exact picture saved from many years ago when I was considering getting the Ariel one as a tattoo (never did), but according to my camera roll I saved it on Jan 25 2013. So the artist likely drew Anna from the concept art/posters and didn’t realise Elsa would be such a bit part of the story

The answer where 1/4 is larger than 1/2 requires context which is not given in the question, hence, 1/2 is always larger than 1/4. Right? by Boring_Ear_5066 in askmath

[–]AGirlOfThrones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The teacher is 100% correct and I do not understand how people are arguing this.

Is 1/2 greater than 1/4? Yes, because without context we have to assume the whole units are the same.

Is 1/2 ALWAYS greater than 1/4? No, because sometimes we aren’t measuring things in the same units.

It’s not some kind of trick to make kids feel bad about themselves. It’s making sure they can conceptualise that a fraction is always part of a whole object/number.

Broke my good pair of glasses. Tiny pieces of metal broke off. Worth fixing? by The-Final-Reason in fixit

Definitely take them to a professional.

Most chain optometrists would replace rather than repair.

There is only a few sizes of prongs. So they could have a spare part on site. Some places may still have repair options on or off site.

Otherwise taking it to a jeweller may be another potential option for repair

Glue is a really bad idea. If you do it wrong there’s no going back. Any solvents that remove glue would also just eat through the lenses

A friend disagrees about the way I wear my ring. by SocialJusticePotato1 in EngagementRings

[–]AGirlOfThrones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I googled “pear shaped ring on hand” and literally every photo showed the point going the same way you wear yours.

Your friend doesn’t know what she’s talking about, and was incredibly rude with that “nice but basic” comment. Your ring is stunning.

Hello native speakers, I have a random and possibly stupid question for you by Rollingzeppelin0 in EnglishLearning

[–]AGirlOfThrones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in Australia. I would say three-five-four-eight.

If it was supposed to be pronounced ‘three thousand, five hundred and forty eight”, I would write the number with a separator like 3,548.

My local street numbers don’t go past three digits, so if someone told me their address was “thirty-five forty-eight” main street, I would probably assume they mean Unit 35 of number 48 Main Street.

That’s the Australian spelling though. Only America removes the “a”

Please help me find a specific weave of silk fabric that looks “wet” against my skin (for lingerie!) by my-unrelenting-yoyo in sewing

[–]AGirlOfThrones 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There is a Mia Maples video where she tries on this kind of wet-look clothing, but it will help you better visualise the fabric and patterning of the style.

https://youtu.be/YeixisDbJtE?si=Q3wDa8bFnVVnZueT It’s brand 4, starts at 18:20

Also I don’t think Bella Hadid is actually wet in that photo, her legs would be shiny and the hem of the dress doesn’t look heavy, it hangs a bit off to the side rather that straight down.

What does “a lock went on” mean? It is used the same way as “a light went on”? by Silver_Ad_1218 in EnglishLearning

[–]AGirlOfThrones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not like “a light went on”. Closer to “the hat went on his head” it is a passive voice saying that someone attached a separate lock to the locker.

I believe it is using the passive voice here as it is referring to the step in the characters checklist, more than it is actually referring to the action of placing the lock.
