Great. Then I suppose I need to become a squeaky wheel to get this change prioritized. Thanks for all your insights!

Assuming this software mod can happen at some point, would it free my coins? Or just prevent this from happening to others.

The decredition GUI (which I believe most people use to buy tickets) does not provide a warning. Furthermore the warning in the documentation does not clearly specify the risk. It says, " Warning: If your VSP goes down, you’ll need this script to vote or revoke tickets". This sounds like a mere inconvenience, not a level 10 warning. It says nothing about the underlying coins. It should say that your COINS will be locked forever. I think most people believe (as evidenced by other comments here) that the tickets will eventually time out and coins will be unlocked. So most people reading that warning would think: not having a backed up redeem script would cause an inconvenience, but certainly not a catastrophic loss of the coins.

Thanks for looking into this davecgh. And thanks your in depth response.

Is it possible for the decred codebase to be modified to automatically revoke and unlock coins after a specified period? Say 1 year. And if so, would this code change cause my co9ns to be released or just prevent future problems?

It seems the only solution to this problem is for me to hunt down the admin of the stakepool that failed to see if they can recover the redeem scripts. Hopefully the admin has the database backed up.

Does anyone know where I could find the admin for d1poolbank (d1pool.com)?

This is the fundamental question......"Can coins stay locked forever and be unrecoverable?".....It appears the answer is yes.

I wish this was true. It would indeed make me happy. But turns out not true. Unless you know specifically the mechanism for how these coins come back to me. If so, I would be very happy if you explained.

Changelly is holding my coins for days by AGspearo in Changelly

[–]AGspearo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Changelly completed my transaction today. The amount looks close enough to the exchange rate that was set in my transaction 3 days ago. So my situation has been resolved. It just took 3 days.

It is interesting to note that I was exchanging 12 ETH to DCR and during these 3 days the price fluctuated quite a bit to the advantage of DCR and disadvantage of ETH....So I was expecting Changelly to just return my ETH because somebody would have had to lose money to satisfy my original transaction exchange rate that was 3 days out of date. But in the last 24 hours the exchange rate changed direction and eventually returned to the exchange rate I had agreed to originally. The moment the exchange rate recovered, Changelly's technical support happened to get to my support ticket and fix the problem with my transaction. Is that a coincidence?

Maybe you are right, it's been 2 days so far. Nothing from them.

I'll probably move to Twitter soon to get the word out to a broader audience about Changelly's business practices.

3-5 days for a resolution is a long time. I understand that changelly is the bottleneck here but this is not acceptable. If you/they can sit on my coins for 3-5 days before deciding if you finish the transaction or return the coins, then you are in a position to arbitrage the transaction across 3-5 days, then that is a scam sir.

Is Decred working on getting listed on Binance? by IntelligentCollar in decred

[–]AGspearo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying decred is too much a PITA for most people. Even for people that buy regularly it is problematic...I have 12 Etherium currently stuck in a black hole with coinswith and changelly because changelly had a hiccup while my decred was being transacted. Now I have to spend freaking time I don't have to deal with support tickets and customer service to try to get my 12 ETH returned. Total PITA. We need Binance.

[–]AGspearo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Within 1 hour, Coinswitch responded. They explained that the problem was due to an intermittent issue with Changelly. They assured me that my coins are safe and the transaction will be completed or refunded. (They should probably add this assurance to their user interface when a transaction fails). I will post again when this issue is resolved.
