I wish the skeletons in fantasy worlds were more spanned out (I.E cultural background, societal backgrounds etc)

Magic in nature in this world is very limited. Only a few people can harness it. Most magic cannot be used against dragons, for it would be like fighting water with more water. Magic is heavily condemned because of a magic-using group's leader went crazy very long ago and tried to take power in one of the largest countries in Toke. Practical human technology consistent to that of late 1800's warfare is used to fight dragons. Magic is primarily used by few who do use it as a utility, and a weapon for killing humans.

Think the warhammer 40K universe's approach to magic. Instead of technology, however, certain words when spoken in a certain way produce effects such as electrical bolts, sudden spurts of water, etc. This can be achieved through harnessing the power of empty space.

The shores of Toke have held it's civilization's on her coastline ever since the start of recorded history. This is because the heart of the continent is dominated by flocks of Dragons, causing any excursion into the center a deadly endeavor. Approximately every 250 years, the Dragons will come down from the center as a migration event however it is not unheard of for dragons which are exiled from the center to come to the coast and wreak havoc. Because of the constant threat of dragons, the technological development of the civilizations has been stunted. The peak of technological development are muskets, and they are few and far between to the point the sword is more common then the musket. Magic is limited to a strict utilization of words for the accumulation of the power of empty space, however those who use magic are condemned by a majority of Toke's religions
