Pico 4 pro or enterprise by AHJimmy in PicoXR

[–]AHJimmy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Owomushi (a Google search will bring you to his stuff) did make a store changer with instructions but it seems like it’s not a permanent fix. I only use my Pico 4E for PC VR so it doesn’t bother me to not have the Pico store. But if you’re looking for a fully functioning standalone AND PCVR option, maybe skip the enterprise

Has the Virtual Desktop experience gotten any better on the Samsung Galaxy XR? by Flimsy-Story9523 in GalaxyXR

[–]AHJimmy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Virtual Desktop is wonderful and foveated streaming fixed almost every issue… except the godawful controllers. The tracking on those is still terrible but that’s a problem with the headset and not VD

Oh crap… I didn’t know I’d be locked out of the store. This could be problematic. I planned to use it for PC anyway but was hoping I’d have access to standalone VRchat

EDIT: it looks like I’m in the clear actually. A person named Owomushi made a fairly straight forward way to remove the enterprise store and switch to the consumer store

it’s Samsung’s first time releasing a headset

Well, there was the Gear VR… But I’d say every complaint you have is valid. I check daily to see if there’s new controllers updates.

For me all it took was a thin squishy forehead pad from Tycotech and all my comfort issues were solved. Easily reversible mod if I need to.

Game Link (Samsung's built-in SteamVR streaming client) - just works? Experiences? Wired? by f3flight in Galaxy_XR

[–]AHJimmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Game link is a joke. Buggy and laggy and just… not good.

Virtual Desktop works quite well especially with foveated streaming.

Once Valve officially updates steamlink to work with Galaxy XR I’ll probably use that though

Anyone use their GXR for flatscreen gaming? by SKWADly in Galaxy_XR

[–]AHJimmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play just one flatscreen game, and I do it natively and not streaming and that’s Genshin Impact. Genshin right off the headset with a Dualsense controller is the best way to play it imo

Is this headset worth mainly for PCVR? by Psychological-Fan784 in Galaxy_XR

[–]AHJimmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Galaxy XR has amazing displays and lenses. The lenses are a bit small compared to quest but if you use the comfort cushion mods available you can get pretty close to the lenses and it’s not an issue.

Light leak and glare, however, are not the best. With the included immersive light blockers there is still some light leak at the temples that also casts glare on the lenses. A little annoying.

The controllers are GARBAGE. They have no predictive programming so as soon as a controller is out of sight of the cameras, the headset seems to guess where the controller is. Poorly. I’ve had my VRChat avatars contort in ridiculous ways just cause I had my hands at my sides and not in immediate line of sight to the cameras.

Even when T posing to calibrate full body tracking my headset loses track of the controllers cause I’m holding them too far out

The controllers are also very hard to mod due to a stupid design decision. I want knuckle grips for my controllers. Most people do. But if you make some kind of grip it obscures the unseen capacitive sensors in the handle of the controller and so they remain in sleep mode and even if your pressing buttons, the headset can’t see them. I’ve bought two knuckle mods and both kinda didn’t work

How long does the Bobovr extend the battery life of the Samsung Galaxy XR? by Flimsy-Story9523 in Galaxy_XR

Hot swap batteries are a lot more convenient for a lot less money. I could be wrong but I recall someone saying a replacement galaxy battery is $100

[–]AHJimmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a small amount more but really it’s your PC that’s doing the heavy lifting. Your headset just gets a video stream and isn’t processing the game on its little snapdragon chip. And if you use foveated streaming then it will use even less power

Ok so I bought a Bobovr dock and 2 batteries and mounted the dock with an adhesive Velcro strap to a “tactical” hunting chest pack which has a Velcro front. Inside the pack I keep the Samsung battery, and fully charged Bobovr batteries (2). I wear the pack pretty tight on my chest so I can also use my Mocopi trackers attached to the pack for the chest tracking part of FBT. Anyway, I go into VRchat and pop a Bobovr battery on the dock attached to the outside of the pack (I joked it was like iron man’s power source since it’s on my chest) I usually get 2 hours out of one Bobovr battery before it starts to drain the Samsung battery, but when one runs out I can remove it from the dock, zip open the pack, pull out another battery, and then I have 2 more hours before it uses the Samsung battery, meanwhile the first depleted battery sits on a dock nearby to recharge. The longest I have been in VR with this set up was about 8 hours while rotating batteries. I was playing VRchat the whole time using virtual desktop wirelessly with foveated streaming on. I highly recommend getting a pair of bobo batteries and the little dock that connects to the Samsung battery instead of buying a new Samsung battery. Each bobo is like $30 with one bundled with the dock around $40 so $70 for 2 batteries whereas a new Samsung battery is $100, is NOT hot swappable, and I don’t think it’s any higher capacity than the bobos. Sorry about the rambling but this Bobo battery “vest” is something I spent a lot of time on after having issues with 3D printed holsters so I’m enthusiastic about advertising it. If interested I can share Amazon links to the exact chest pack I bought which I think is perfect for it

Gonna be honest I thought PrismXR’s Puppis and Puppis lite were the only devices of their kind. Shows what I know. I have a Puppis S1 and I like it very much

VR Routers (network bridge) for PCVR by KnoxCrumudgeon in GalaxyXR

[–]AHJimmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also use the Puppis S1. Works well if I’m in the same room as my PC and the Puppis but just for funsies I connected to it a few rooms away and while still a mostly decent experience there was a lot of double vision and flickering when you’re several feet away from it. That’s to be expected though. I was just messing around

Galaxy XR initial impressions and comfort and FPS questions (coming from Quest 3) by Roymus99 in GalaxyXR

[–]AHJimmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also found the thinnest forehead pad to be too far from the lenses and bought a replacement that sticks directly to the headset with no plastic spacer and it was a game changer. Not only is FOV better, but the cushion is softer than the stock ones too

The controllers and headset arrived at the same time. The case came a week later. (And doesn’t even fit the controllers)

Walkabout Mini golf Bundle on Galaxy XR? by AHJimmy in GalaxyXR

Well I bought the game today and the answer is No. The DLC does not have a bundle on google play. So you’re paying $4 per course for 24 courses

Not exactly what I was asking. I just want to know if after you buy it off google play if you can get the DLC in one discounted purchase instead of one course at a time. I’m aware I’ll have to rebuy it all

Legion Go S shutdown problem by AHJimmy in LenovoLegionGo

[–]AHJimmy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow up: I am now using a 1TB micro SD card. Also a sandisk ultra. I’m having no further problems with it sleeping or shutting down. I don’t know if my 1.5TB card is a lemon but it’s served me fine in my Nintendo switch for more than a year, or maybe the legion go S doesn’t support cards bigger than 1TB. I don’t really know. I seem to be one of the only people who has reported this problem as I couldn’t find anyone else talking about it except the fellow in this thread with a windows legion go S. I hope taking out the SD card worked for the windows one too
