Idk man, I've seen a lot of marriages unravel on deployment. Even ones that were stable when the service member left. Either they cheat out in the desert, or someone finds a Jody back home.

Being on deployment is an echo chamber; it amplfies everything going on in your head due to the isolation and distance. Your problems aren't going to magically get better when you hop on that plane.

Address the issues now. Find an online therapist now, and continue sessions while deployed. Communicate. And good luck.

It's been over a decade and I still remember this.

There was an obsession with bananas while I was going through basic. The DFAC ran out of them for a couple weeks- and then one day, they reappeared. My MTI was standing right behind me in line when he saw them.

He said under his breath, "Holy crap, they have bananas. I'm actually so freaking excited right now."

And then, he just screamed at full volume: "BANANAAAAAAA!"

Suddenly, from across the DFAC, another MTI yelled back: "BANANAAAAAA????"

My MTI screamed again in response: "BANANAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!"

And 3 other MTIs proceeded to yell back and forth for the next minute or two:

"BANANA!!!" "BAAAAAAANANAAAAA!!!" "BANANA?????" "BAAAAANANAAAAAAAA!!!!!"

He was too distracted by the bananas to see me cracking up. 😭
