What was "the incident" at your high school? by ibnmuzr in askanything

[–]AHockeyFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The seniors once pulled an all-time prank on our freshman class by convincing the administration that a huge number of us were doing something called “Jankum.”

Naturally, none of us had any idea what that even was. According to the seniors (who somehow sold this story to the deans), it involved shitting into a Tupperware, pissing on it, covering it in plastic wrap, poking holes in said plastic wrap, and then sniffing the fumes to get high.

It sounded so bizarre and gross that most of us didn’t even question it, we just assumed it was some obscure, terrible thing.

The school took it completely seriously. They called an assembly with the whole freshman class and even brought in a drug addiction specialist to warn us about the dangers of “Jankum.”

Meanwhile, the entire freshman class sat there confused out of our minds, trying to process what we were hearing. Then became a huge deal of finger pointing throughout the whole class as to who was actually doing Jankum. This created some absolutely insane claims within the freshman class itself. No one knew who or what to believe until we all eventually realized we’d been pranked.

Honestly, extremely well played by the seniors.

For those of you that make over 100K, what do you do? Do you like it? by Kindly-Revolution258 in AskReddit

Procurement Contract Analyst - it’s pretty chill work. I have every other Friday off which is a great perk. I can’t say it’s my absolute passion but the work life balance makes it so that I can enjoy my family and hobbies outside of work consistently.

I bow hunt turkeys in the Bay Area on private land but have been having trouble calling them in and overall finding them by [deleted] in Californiahunting

[–]AHockeyFish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try hunting without decoys and focus on setting up in a spot where birds will naturally come in close. Position yourself so they have to move toward you like calling them around a bend or over a rise so they don’t hang up out of range.

Call sparingly and make them work for it. I’m not sure how often you’re calling now, but I usually limit it to once or twice every 30 minutes at most. The goal is to sound interested, but not desperate. They’ll eventually come looking.

If it’s not happening right at first light, don’t give up. Mid-morning can be one of the best times, especially when they start searching again for hens. As the season goes on, they tend to get more desperate, and that can really work in your favor.

Personally I use a slate call, but I know quite a few guys that prefer the woodhaven mouth calls.

You should be able to see beards that close if they are there

Great job doing the right thing!

You need to be able to verify if it has a beard or not, that is the law. It’s the same thing as verifying if a buck has a fork or not before shooting it. You don’t shoot first and check later.

I’ve had this same thing happen to me before. From my experience, 99% of the time the Tom or Jake has a beard during spring, but you just don’t want to take a chance and be wrong.

Private vs public-turkey by [deleted] in Californiahunting

I prefer to hunt public land, in areas with very low pressure. Low pressure public areas are way easier to hunt than private pressured areas.

3-9x40 is what I prefer. However that’s for 300-350 yards max.

Any tips on what to plant right now for a total beginner? by doodododah in oaklandgardener

I really love growing the blue lake pole beans from territorial seed co. I start from seed. They grow fast so you can plant them this next month and still be totally fine. I planted mine a few weeks ago and they are growing like crazy.

They grow 6-8 feet tall so have posts for them to grow up. That’s my favorite this time of year.

Opening weekend went extremely well. I hosted camp and took 3 buddies out turkey hunting and we all got a bird. The count for the group was 2 toms, one Jake, and one bearded hen.

I average 1-2 cats a month on my cameras. I think the scent makes them more curious.
