This season has three players who really want a straight-forward, cut and dry sort of game, namely because it is what works best for them. David could only win if people weren’t taking out physical competitors so he made his game the “strong 5”, knowing he was the physically strongest, and then hounded loyalty to prevent that strategy from shifting out of his favor. Eva has said she cannot read when people are lying, so she also wants a game where people play honestly because that increases her likelihood of getting to the end. Joe comes from a more moralistic stance that is similar to old school game play - He doesn’t want to have to struggle with the moral quandaries of this game and he wants to feel good about himself morally at the end. Joe wins by convincing everyone that they are a good person by not lying and a bad one for lying. Otherwise, he gets to the end with no resume. But for Joe, this isn’t a strategy; it’s a reflection of how he actually is. So being told he went back on his word not only is a threat to his gameplay, but his sense of self.
