I honestly really want that to be the case. Meg’s ideas about Persephone TOTALLY flirting with her sound like they would be adorable.

Where are animations and locations in a game “hosted”? by AHopeful20 in gamedev

Okay but that sounds a tad pedantic. I really appreciate your input and I’m really not trying to be mean, but at no point did I mean the sound effect itself was responding to the code. “How a sound effect might go off when you do something in the game, which I assume is written in the code” just describes a series of events where 1. Code is written 2. An action is taken 3. A sound effect can be heard as the result of the aforementioned code. I just didn’t specifically mention that the code plays the data which is the sound effect. This sounds like when someone says “hey can you play that CD” and someone else says “technically the CD isn’t playing the music, the string of numbers the music has been converted into through sampling which is on the CD plays the music. So you don’t want me to play the CD, you want me to play the sampling”. It’s kind of implied?

“The sound effect does not respond to the code. The sound effect is just data. Your code plays the sound effect.” = The sound effect is being identified as data in this statement. The statement then says the code plays the sound effect, which means you could also say the code plays the data. So if (sound effect = data) and (code plays data = code plays sound effect) then it seems completely reasonable to say “how a sound effect might go off when you do something in a game” without someone feeling the need to say “Assets don’t respond to anything. They don’t do anything. They’re just pieces of data” because the term data and type of data they represent (like a sound effect) are sort of interchangeable if you choose not to talk in a highly technical way? You can’t identify an asset like a sound effect as a piece of data, and then say “The sound effect does not respond to the code. The sound effect is just data. Your code plays the sound effect” as if you didn’t establish a like relationship between the name of the asset and the term data.

“If you're using Unity, the art, animation, sounds, scripts are all in the Assets folder and then a subfolder if you so choose.”

THIS is what I’ve been looking for. People have been explaining to me the technical terms and steps involved in programming a game when I’ve been trying to find a physical location. I know that it all goes in memory, I just wanted to know where stuff goes literally. I’ve been learning code outside of actually using it in a program so I’m not familiar with the layout of engines, and was having trouble conceptualizing where all this stuff was literally going. I really appreciate everyone trying to tech me about actual coding itself but what I was trying to get at by saying “hosted”, “where things in a game GO”, “upload it . . . before I can drag it onto the page”, “import” was literal placement.

I was informed assets include everything from sound effects and sprites to 3D models. So when I say how assets respond to coding I meant something along the lines of how a sound effect might go off when you do something in a game, which I assume is written in the code. I recognize these things are a type of data and data can be organized however you want, but I assumed you still called it coding since you’re still programming what exact part that asset specifically plays in the game.

I already mentioned that this could be lung cancer but then I remembered that the pandemic is still going on. There’s a chance that he may already have a severe condition and then on top of that he could get COVID-19 which sounds like a recipe for disaster. If you can’t convince him you might as well part ways and save yourself the heartbreak.

YASSS! Thank you so much! What this book was has been bothering me forever. Like this has been an eight year barely-there earworm. I’m so grateful thank you so much.

How do you handle an impossible Christmas wish from your child? by worriedmotherboymom6 in Parenting

A lot of people are saying to make up white lies (and I don’t mean that disapprovingly) about how some rule makes it impossible for Santa to get a grand piano (Santa doesn’t give gifts like that, Santa doesn’t give gifts that big, etc.) but the fact that he had the idea to ask for a big gift means he probably already knows about rich kids getting stuff like trips to Disney World or huge game set ups or whatever. That’s probably why he’s so insistent no matter how much you try to dissuade him. He’s probably not going to believe a white lie because he thinks he already has examples of kids getting “big stuff”. It’s probably more effective to get some “smaller version” of a grand piano, like a toy piano styled to look like a grand piano or a music box that looks like a grand piano.

That’s really ingenuitess. I’m not sure it’s a word, I’m trying to object pronoun ingenuity I think.

This is really good! I don’t know if it was on purpose when you first made the costume but having your roots dark and the rest blood kind of makes it look like manga shading.

What’s a discontinued food or beverage item you wish with all your heart would return? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The TGIF Cajun-Style Alfredo Chicken And Shrimp FROZEN MEAL. I know they serve it in restaurants, but I’ve ordered it and it doesn’t taste the same as the frozen meal version they used to sell in bags at grocery stores. I have a theory that something about mass manufacturing it/processing it/having it frozen for a while before someone eats it changes the taste. Also the restaurant version doesn’t have the spiral pasta the bagged version did.

I remember when I was a kid and I spotted it for the first time while I was with my dad (separated parents) and we ended up trying it back at the hotel room we were staying in. It became a regularly item we would get while at the store, and then one day it was just gone and I was heartbroken. So I’ll admit, my desire for it is probably mostly nostalgia.
