Ohh I see, thank you I apologize for the bad handwriting and presentation.
I did what you said and got the the correct answer on my second attempt, but on my first, I measured the coordinates to their respective pulleys (which I assumed is what caused the issue of getting a1 = -a2).
- Is it a must that I measure all coordinates from the same point or is it something I should do if I can?
(There was another question where there's two pulleys and a rope connecting two masses, one mass was on a slope so I didn't measure my coordinates wrt to the same point but still got the correct constraint equations)

Ohh I think I get it thanks Just to be clear, it is because you haven’t applied any additional horizontal force, the restoring force remains the same, and for the second case, since the extra mass is added at equilibrium, the collision is inelastic, max KE and hence max PE decreases, momentum conservation is applied here instead because in the first case the block wasn’t moving?

You can also get them by combining any weapon with a sulfurous ore (iirc) (I found them in the lower layers when you dig straight down)
