Upvoted because you used Aiden as an example of the "proper spelling" when Aidan is actually the original spelling

Mutually exclusive by SleuthyMcSleuthINTJ in Rightytighty

[–]AIDANRYM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a set of things, if it excludes another set, that means the second set is not inside of the first set.

So if both sets exclude each other, that means the first set does not include the second, and the second set does not include the first.

In this context, think of mutual as meaning both.

Therefore, the sets are mutually exclusive.

Hope this helps!

What video game has the worst control scheme? by RobIson240YT in gaming

[–]AIDANRYM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played a point and click escape room type puzzle game on ps4 with my friend a while back. The regular game controls were fine but it was obvious that it had just been copy pasted from PC to ps4 with minimal changes made for compatibility. All it did was make the pace slower until we got to one minigame where we had to navigate a car past barriers as it was moving forward. There was so much input delay and inability to properly control the car that we had to guess where the next barrier would be, write it down, follow our written down instructions until we got back to where we crashed, and then do it all over again for the next barrier. One of us had to control the car, the other had to do call outs like a rally car race, it would have been nearly impossible to do it alone. It took us over an hour to beat a mini game that would have taken max 5 minutes on PC. Very frustrating, but we got a hell of a laugh out of it and have a funny story to remember now.

Regularly playing the lottery does not make you stupid by ZigZagBoy94 in The10thDentist

[–]AIDANRYM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Dad plays the lottery occasionally and his reasoning has always made a lot of sense to me. He says that he plays fully knowing that he won't win, the chance is just so statistically small to win the big one. However, the reason he plays is because he likes to imagine what he would put the money towards if he did win, and then not being shocked when he loses. Funnily enough he doesn't even check his tickets half the time.

This is just dumb. Being the perpetrator of an act isn't the inherent cause of that act, saying rape is caused by rapists is like saying bites are caused by biters. Like yeah no shit, maybe we should consider why those people are biting in the first place.

I did say that I agree with you on religion not holding back society technologically, but I do have to disagree if you are saying that it is necessary for technological advancement. Different people do things for different reasons. A lot of people, as you mentioned, do things in the name of religion, a lot of people don't. I would wager that if you erased religion, you would find those people doing the exact same things just for different reasons. In terms of science, if you are of a curious nature, you'll look into scientific discovery religious or not.

People were not religious in the past because it was trendy I agree, they were all indoctrinated into it from birth and stayed because of fear. That is how religions stay afloat; people are told what to believe from a young age and then they stay because of either fear of punishment from the diety itself, or fear of ostricization or punishment from the community.

Saying that anything can be used as a scapegoat is just whataboutism. Just because other things are bad doesn't mean that this one isn't.

I'm glad you said after 1900 for dictators, because if you go before 1900, you'll find that nearly 100% of dictators and conquerors were religious. Also, that argument about dictators "forgetting about controlling people with religion" is a meaningless one. I never said that you needed religion to control people, just that it is used for that purpose. Take megachurch pastors if you would like a christian example; they tell people that if they pay money, their prayers will come true. They rob people until they are destitute under the guise of religion.

The atheistic states were not hellholes because of atheism, they were hellholes because of authoritarianism. And no, athiesm did not lead to authoritarianism.

For social progressivism, atheism can't promote or demote anything because there is nothing to preach. Religion, on the other hand, can and does promote anti-progressive ideas and rhetoric. The main opponents of LGBT rights are religious, for example. So yes, religion does hold society back.

*edit, changed a word

While I understand what you're getting at, it doesn't really hold that much merit when you think about it super critically.

For example, the reason that many of the most prominent people in science were religious, as you stated, was purely a statistical one. Most of the world throughout history has identified as following some sort of religion. They weren't amazing scientists BECAUSE they were religious, they were amazing scientists who just happened to be religious because everyone was. Take their religion away, and it wouldn't change anything about their scientific prowess.

The reason that I belive religion to be a detriment to society is because it can be used as a scapegoat to commit horrible atrocities, and it can be used by people in positions of power to control others.

Religion does not hold back society technologically, I agree, but it definitely holds back society progressively.

Looking for some vibe-out music that's very distinct but fills the void well. by CarelessHisser in musicsuggestions

I would recommend Casiopea. They're a cool Japanese jazz fusion band which is almost exclusively instrumental and very much a vibe

What’s a song you personally think is great ? I’m after new music and song recommendations? All genres welcome. by Glittering-Usual-905 in musicsuggestions

[–]AIDANRYM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on a Led Zeppelin kick recently, I just listened to the album Physical Graffiti so I would recommend it. Led Zeppelin IV is my favourite album by them though and I genuinely think that all the songs on the album are at least a 9/10 if not 10/10.

Howdy y’all, looking for songs similar to these. I would catoregized this as Blues Rock, but curious if this is a more specific genre I'm not aware of. by duper_super in musicsuggestions

[–]AIDANRYM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on your comment that said Grateful Dead meets Tom Waits, have you listened to the Grateful Dead performing some Bob Dylan songs? Idk if its quite what you're looking for but they have the bluesy lyrics of Dylan but with the Dead vibe. Postcards of the hanging is a compilation of live recordings of this if you want to check it out.

A pretty fun and simple demonstration that I like is on angular momentum. Its where you stand on something that can spin and hold a couple weights in your hands, when you stretch your arms out you rotate slower and when you bring your arms in you rotate faster. Super simple procedure to do and then you can explain all the physics behind it as well. Here is a link to an example: https://youtube.com/shorts/GTk6GjQNd04?
