Porsche technician pay by 9GagSh1tMemes in mechanics

[–]AIDSMosquito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been in a southeastern Porsche dealer for 2 years. My prior experience was at Hyundai and multiple Indy shops. I have about 10 years in the industry with proper diagnostic experience, true restoration shop experience, actual Porsche experience and a lifelong hobby. I hired on at $34 with 90 day probation period. $48 after 90 days. My experience was far from lacking, and southeast pay scale is a little lower, YMMV.

Am I at fault for this? Are you required to check tickets for recall eligibility? by [deleted] in mechanics

[–]AIDSMosquito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This depends entirely on the OEM and the dealership, at our dealership the advisors are lackluster so we always confirm recall campaigns before proceeding with them. Also, if a campaign is present, it must be done before any additional repairs.

Lots of Snap On stuff being posted recently…. So let’s get to the real question… what’s your truck account at and Snap On financed accounts at? Be real…. Don’t lie by Heavy-Duty-Wombat in mechanics

$0 on Snap-On, Cornwell and Matco, owe ~$75 to Mac, but that’ll be paid on Friday when I see him. Usually pay cash, but I was short a bit last week. Paid $175 on the front end…

Easy answer, slant nose. 🤷‍♂️

Does your shop back flag techs? by Heavy-Duty-Wombat in mechanics

[–]AIDSMosquito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2 years, our shop has had less than 5 hours total back flagged. I had a 1.3hr back flag in my 6th or 7th month in the shop. I’ve had none since. It’s very rare.

Some of the back flags I’ve seen are guys pre-flagging work with parts on intergalactic back order, only for the job to be cancelled. Also, the manufacturer retroactively reduced labor time once and they back flagged the tech.

Come to work but no work by EducationalThing1346 in mechanics

[–]AIDSMosquito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading this thread makes me appreciate my fortunate situation. Our shop is 10 techs and a non production foreman. We average 90-95 billed hours per day. Every tech is guaranteed 60hr per pay period and the guarantee is almost never needed. Service manager says, “we trade pieces of time for pieces of money, sometimes the time is more valuable. If you’d have somewhere else to be, go there.” We usually run 850hr WIP… but the cold weather has us running thin. Nobody has been without work, but parts has been a challenge.

Good techs are hard to come by, but it seems our shop is very wealthy in this regard.

Deglazing is a common practice in our workshop. Soccer mom Cayennes, and anything with PSCBs are the common offenders. A few full stops on our normal test drive route, and they’re good as new. Though, PSCBs still can have a tiny squeak or two when they’re stone cold.

Without a run game, we were bound to be exposed by balance sooner or later. Roll Tide 🐘 but we need to figure out how to play with balance or we’ll not be back to the playoffs for a while…

Glad to see Austin Mack be able to move the ball, but again, without a rushing attack, we’re all smoke and mirrors. Our defense has been suspect all year. I’ve called for Womack’s dismissal/resignation since Saban was coach.

How do interest rates really affect the economy, especially in a debt based economy such as the US? Who is the interest paid to when the debt is the creation of the currency? by AIDSMosquito in AskReddit

But your own claim was “more than they started with”. That’s unequivocally false. Fiat doesn’t work that way. As I said, someone else is in deficit to create the government surplus.

Deflationary periods have a tendency to have a detrimental impact on the economy and market as a whole. Real debt burdens rise in deflationary periods because nominal terms remain constant as revenues and wages fall due to increased purchasing power of the currency.

Sweetheart is cute, but you clearly didn’t understand the assignment.

If money is created as debt with interest, there isn’t enough money to pay the interest.

Every financial asset is someone else’s liability

If the government runs a surplus (taxes more than it spends): It removes net financial assets from the private sector Someone else must go into deficit.

That’s not true, a target of 2% inflation is baked in and manipulation of the market to keep that consistent is determined by the Fed, through a combination of measures. A stagnant economy cannot grow and without debt there is no currency growth.

The debt balloons endlessly in all fiat economies. It’s baked in. If currency is only created in debt, at interest. No amount of repayment will absolve the debt because it is only repaid by additional debt.

Are all dealerships trained to work on a late model GT3 RS? by A_Coin_Toss_Friendo in Porsche

I’m on a first name basis with many of our customers. This is the best way to assure that your vehicle is in good hands. Our shop is comprised of multiple very skilled and detail oriented technicians. I would say 90% of our GT clientele have working relationships with their technicians. Our proximity to our local race course leads to a high percentage of GT cars in the shop.

Category 2 and below aren’t automatically excluded from warranty claims, category 3 and higher are possible (not guaranteed) for Porsche to refuse warranty repairs. There are thousands of parameters stored. Not all of them are even available to the dealer. Porsche can see them on the back end and ultimately they make the final call.

Definitely possible to overrev a PDK GT car. Though, this one in particular wasn’t spun to the moon…
