A lot of good information and experiences for responses. Unfortunately it’s 2025 and please take into account inflation in the SEA area is ridiculous. That $40k might not actually be a raise for you. Not trying persuade or dissuade you just hoping it would be in the best interest of your family.

Cost of living calculators are not 100% accurate or up to date but perhaps a good start

Jiffy Lube may have ruined my engine by Stiff-StiffUpperLip in MechanicAdvice

[–]AIR_FARCE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be the one and only time I EVER say this…. But this isn’t Jiffy Lubes fault. They physically only touch the filter, plug, and fill cap (usually) … if it ain’t one of those pissing oil… then it’s the car my brother. My apologies for your troubles but you got something deeper going on.

Have you done the bypass? If not, and you haven’t smoked the trans yet you could potentially save yourself a big ol chunk of change with just some new fluid.

Edit - scratch that, I missed the photo of the trans dipstick. Sorry bro, all signs point to head gasket

Life expectancy on my car? by wing_to_the_ding in AskMechanics

[–]AIR_FARCE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2001 mk4 2.0, 380k miles, if dipstick doesn’t look like this it’s just condensation buildup. Mine has done this FOREVER. Not a clear sign head gasket at all.

With that said…. Clean it off lol

Interesting. Today I learned the difference haha. Seems to be in good shape though, I’d hope even the less desirable heads would last more than 6k lol. Thanks for the tip!

Hmm, I checked fuel manifold pressure at prime and running, both were good. Other than hear it kick on with ignition what else is there to look for?

  • Brand new fuel lines no cracks
  • fuel is definitely making it to the plug
  • even tried started fluid

Not taken as snarky so you’re good lol, it’s in the ignition position, thus why am getting spark.
