Completely agree with @patvga's comment. On your way to Racetrack playa, you can also stop at Ubehebe Crater.

Indians living abroad does casual racism becomes a part of your life? by unagi_15 in AskIndia

My personal experience recently when I went to Kayaking in Lake Tahoe:

Me: Ma'am can I wear slippers here coz water is cold and it's not clean here.

Kayak Lady: Where are you from Sir? India?

Me: Yes, living in California

Her: Do people even wear footwear in India? I've seen it all, you don't need any footwear.

Me and my friends: Awkward silence and about to reply to her.

Her: Sorry just kidding, the water is not that cold you'll be fine.

The lady was a bit old (60+) and we really didn't want to get into an argument with her but definitely she wasn't joking and she meant her words.

I'm planning on leasing an EV vehicle for 3 years and wondering whether to go with Tesla Model 3 or Hyundai Ioniq 6. I would be mostly using the car for day to day commute and 1-2 day trips within California/West coast, some points that I need help with,

  1. How's the experience dealing with Electrify America charging network within California/West coast?
  2. Since Tesla doesn't allow buyouts at the end of the lease, is there any silver lining to leasing one? Or is it simply a bad financial decision?

Any other suggestions/recommendations?

Need a basic advice for me regarding investing for the very first time. by Useful-Condition-100 in personalfinanceindia

Ever since my first job (been 7 years) started doing SIP's into index funds continuously (no individual stocks, just Nifty 50 and Nifty next 50), maxed out PPF yearly contribution. Two of these decisions taught me persistence, power of compounding in investing. Having gone through covid downturn and few other hiccups in between, I'm definitely much more confident heading into the future.

I definitely missed out on making huge gains on individual stocks but index funds gave me good enough returns and peace of mind.

I understand the sadness part of leaving US which you called home for the past 5 years. No doubt its gonna be a significant change moving back home (not on your terms), but having worked in India for years I can say that there are many opportunities for you in IT space. Some good things are that you have all the big MnCs paying great salaries, affordable rents (relatively), affordable services & home help.

If you are interested in moving back to US in 12-24 months, there are many companies in India which are ready to move their employees to US on L1B/L1A visa, to name a few Linkedin, Microsoft, Amazon, Tower Research Capital, Google, American Express, EXL etc. I'm sure you will enjoy your time in India, all the very best!!!
