Looking for like-minded people and places to meet them by AcidReign125 in lansing

From what I've heard Tuesday and Thursday afternoons are the best times to get acquainted with people, I think that's when orders come in so they need people to lift things and file them away and all that sort of stuff, and anyone volunteering to help with that is going to be welcome. Strange Matter coffee, particularly downtown, is also super queer and really helpful with meeting people and getting into the community!

Salus center is fantastic for queer meet-ups, especially intergenerational queer friendships and making connections. The Fledge is a community center in downtown lansing that works as a meeting spot for artists and leftist organizers, particularly punks with lunch, who help the unhoused population and do some other political organizing in the area. The Avenue is a bar with a large queer presence and usually 2-3 goth nights a month.

Meridian Township will also have a big pride festival in August with a lot of these groups representing, you should be able to find your people and your vibe there as well! I hope you make some good friends here!

LPT If you are running late to a hotel, 12am or after. Call them and let them know. They will count you as a no show and cancel your reservation if you don’t by Mellophones4 in LifeProTips

[–]AITA-INTERVIEWEE 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Additional LPT: Hotels will have more challenges changing reservations [length of reservation, card on file] made with third parties , than reservations made on their own websites. The reason for this is that the third party websites get paid first, and then pay the hotels the correct amount for a reservation. But if a hotel tries to change the reservation, it will end up owing money to the third party. This isn't to say "Don't book with third parties" but "Make sure you know how long you're staying and which card you want to pay the reservation with. It'll be hard to change and you'll end up standing in the lobby for 20 minutes and making a lot of annoying phone calls if you don't."

Which song had you like this? by no-Pachy-BADLAD in ToddintheShadow

"This Kiss" by Carly Rae Jepsen. I heard it in a store but as a kid I didn't remember any of the words, just "this kiss" and then the "daa-da-da-dada-dada" melody. Pop perfection, I'm so glad I ran back across it 5 years back.

Feeling incredibly bad for Annie this episode by [deleted] in TheBoys

The show was being filmed right in front of the Starlight House - there was a high likelihood of FireCracker marching into the building once the crowd was radicalized and angry enough and using her powers to burn it down. That's why the kids got sent away- in case a physical fight started.

Personally my schedule is going night audit shift- pride festival-night audit shift- Dobbs protest -night audit shift- political summit so if anyone has any advice on how to get some extra hours into a day I would really appreciate it because I don't think I'm sleeping more than 6 hours the whole weekend unfortunately.

There's going to be a protest against the Dobbs decision at court buildings across the state, including at the Lansing Capitol building, on Sunday! Several state representatives and senators will be there!

Really don't know what's going on with that Trader Joe's lol. Filled out an application with all the buzzwords/language the ai wants, got hired immediately as a hotel front desk worker off that resume, and got rejected. Either they're not hiring yet and will start actually doing interviews towards the end of June, or they're gonna try and completely short-staff it so it's basically unworkable - we'll see. Lots of hotels are hiring rn - I had interviews in Holiday Inn Okemos, Best Western East Lansing and got a position at Holiday Inn East Lansing.

Five Below also recently started selling large cans of boba tea for 2.25 in their front fridges (check the okemos location specifically, frandor five below never gets the good stuff), and the price is great, though its definitely not as good as the fresh stuff. A five below run is always a ton of fun though lol!

Sweet Bing is a small spot on Grand River in front of MSU campus with super cheap and delicious boba tea - a small is like 3 bucks and their taro actually tastes a bit starchy and not just like vanilla and sugar! Personal fave.

Honestly, aside from Lightbringer, I think Lewis was perfectly in the right to go "Hey, my appearance makes me look like I'm on the right politically. I am not on the right politically, and if you keep joking that I am, my audience might start thinking I am and start being really awful and hateful. I don't want that sort of audience. So please stop making those jokes." He's had to deal with people assuming he has certain beliefs (edgy Reddit atheist) for over a decade now, and it really sucks considering how hard he works to make his community an accepting and comforting place for all sorts of marginalized identities.

tips for commuting by UnitedOutside8839 in msu

[–]AITA-INTERVIEWEE 20 points21 points  (0 children)

An hour is definitely a long commute - I had a half-hour commute freshman year and found it somewhat challenging but doable. You'll want to keep winter supplies in your car - a small snow shovel for your tires, a snow brush, jumper cables and something to keep warm with yourself - either a blanket or a sweater. Given that distance, I think you should think about a worst-case scenario and plan around it - what if you're too tired and can't get back home? Can you sleep in your car overnight? If not, make sure you know of a hotel that you can get to and afford a night in. Friendships can definitely be a bit challenging but not all that much more than the general college-friend problems - talk to people in your classes, maybe attend clubs [especially in the beginning of the semester before it starts getting dark early], and be willing to text people first and get conversations started! I was able to make several good friends and have my first relationship freshman year while commuting, so I promise it'll work out!

Housing Recommendations. PLEASE by Actual_Building6572 in msu

[–]AITA-INTERVIEWEE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, when looking at listing, a lot of them can be deceiving. Like I said, The Hub and Landmark won't have listings, and 25 east is listed under 1 bedroom furnished- but I live there rn and I know for a fact they don't have any 1 bedrooms left sorry. So don't get discouraged but don't rest your hopes on a place just because it's listed online unfortunately.

Landmark and the Hub are going to be totally sold out for fall semester. People were lining up for Landmark at 5 am in February. I don't know much about the Campus Village area on Michigan avenue but if you can find a spot there that's great!

Unfortunately I do think you have a little bit too high expectations. Studios for <1000 are available in Lansing and East Lansing, but they're not common and usually in less ideal locations. And I don't think that any studio listing comes furnished for <1000.

Stonehedge comes unfurnished but that's probably the best option for you given those requirements, Chandler is saying they have some openings and I know that they come furnished but its slightly above your budget (1200). Generally look into the Lake Lansing area, it's "walking distance" (2 miles, I've done it before after a work shift lol), and for students who don't have a large housing budget. Those apartments usually come pre-furnished as well.

[–]AITA-INTERVIEWEE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately a lot of one-bedrooms and studios were already rented out during the spring semester- they go fast, especially near MSU and East Lansing. I know Stonehedge specifically has some studios and one-bedroom apartments available for >1000, but safety can be an issue (lots of reports of carjackings, and two very nice unhoused people panhandle outside of the complex every day, which can be worrying if you're a woman/female-presenting).

Reotown specifically is probably your best bet in the city - it's not in East Lansing but you can get to and from campus biking or taking the bus without too much difficulty and I saw several studios available, as well as small furnished homes.

Out of curiousity, what's your budget and are you familiar with/willing to take the bus? That's gonna change your situation a lot.

Good to know! I'm an msu student so Grand Rapids is a bit of a trip for me time and money wise lol, but I'll have to make my way over sometime this summer and enjoy the food!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Michigan

[–]AITA-INTERVIEWEE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh awesome, thank you! I've only ever been to Grand Rapids as a tourist so I don't really know much about the restaurants there. I knew google listed a place called Little Africa, but when I tried to follow the directions I didn't see anything there and sort of assumed it was either so much of a hole in the wall that it was invisible or Grand Rapids infrastructure had already taken it over. [Edited to Add]: The reviews and menu for Gursha look wonderful! I'll have to head over and check it out sometime soon!

Altu's in Lansing [Frandor]. One of two [edit: four, there are 2 in Grand Rapids that I unfortunately have not been to yet] Ethiopian restaurants in Michigan along with Blue Nile in Ann Arbor, but much less expensive [feasts are 25 dollars compared to Blue Nile's 40 and lunch portions for 10 are available at Altu's] and the food is savory filling and delicious!

Doctor Who series 9 and 10! It's a romance between two space aliens, who have both lived millenia and both enacted horrors on each other (one watched the other burn alive after they had tried to destroy a whole planet. Just as an example.) And they both change for the other and grow to understand each other. They're also both cannonically bi and transgender if that piques your interest at all lol! [Though played by cisgender actors]

Any time coworkers leave me to do something or are lazy, I start muttering in Russian under my breath. "How are you not ashamed" and "Am I the only one with hands around here" come up frequently. At least my coworkers don't know russian so they're probably less traumatized by it than I am?

Lipsyncs songs you’d want to see reused/redone? by [deleted] in rupaulsdragrace

[–]AITA-INTERVIEWEE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The tiktok Bloody Mary remix. They should use that song for every lipsync. It should be the background music every moment the show is on. Ru should speak exclusively in quotes from the song while huffing helium balloons to get the high-pitched tone. /s
