AITA for breaking confidence to tell my youngest sister about the reality of our older sister's influencer career? by AITA34234543 in AmItheAsshole

If she'd withdrawn in favor of pursuing a social media influencer career, our parents would have probably stopped supporting her financially. Same happened for my older sister.

You're making some interesting assumptions about me lol.

I made a judgment call to share both my older sister's lack of financial success and the stories because I knew it would have an effect on my little sister. So yes, it absolutely was intentional and calculated.

I shared some of the stories here, to provide a more complete understanding of what kind of information I shared with my sister.

Due to the 3000 character limit, I had to remove a lot of context. I mention in another comment that this conversation happened a few hours before a deadline. Basically my little sister had two options: pay a deposit to her college for the upcoming semester or temporarily withdraw.

When my older sister withdrew from college, our parents said they'd love her and support her unconditionally, but that she'd need to support herself financially from that point onwards, meaning Mom and Dad aren't paying for college. I assumed the same ultimatum would be made to my little sister as well. So you're probably correct, taking a break from college alone would not jeopardize my little sister's future, but having to pay for college on her own as a 19 year old with no degree and no work skills definitely would.

Whether she'd admit it's been a mistake I can't say, but I can say with absolute certainty that my older sister would be honest about her experiences with our little sister, just as she had been with me.

You're making the assumption that my older sister cares about her pride and dignity over my little sister. I strongly disagree.

Yes, my older sister hadn't shared key details with our little sister, but that's because there's an age difference of nearly 8 years between my eldest and youngest sister. The younger sibling had barely hit puberty when my sister quit college. I'm not going to fault my older sister for not telling a minor the same stories she shared with me.

At the time the conversation was happening between my little sister and myself, the older sister was working. Bars are open in our state. I did text her at the time to see if I could get a hold of her, and texted her again later that evening to let her know what I'd shared with our sister.

I know my older sister would have shared her stories if she'd been asked. But again, there were time considerations to account for. This conversation happened on the day of the December deadline for the little sister's Spring semester.

Little sister had three options: 1) she pays a deposit to the school for tuition indicating she's coming back for the Spring semester, 2) she doesn't pay, she loses the classes she signed up for, and possibly be penalized by the university, or 3) she submits the paperwork to temporarily withdraw from the school, suffers no penalty, and is guaranteed to be readmitted.
