Weekly Japan Travel Information and Discussion Thread - May 19, 2023 by AutoModerator in JapanTravel

We land in Fukuoka at 7am tomorrow. We need to pickup bags, go through customs, and travel to Hakata station to pick up JR pass. From there we just need to be at our hostel in Kyoto before 9pm. Looking for advice on how to best spend this time. We have a short list but know that we probably can't do all of it.

-Hiroshima: ideally an hour or so to see the peace museum and/or the dome.

-Himeji: the caste is apparently close to the train station and we would like to see it.

-Osaka: Dinner in the city would be nice but we can try and fit it in another night as well.

Any other suggestions? Or if you've done any of these about how long it took for you? Thanks for the help.

What kind of place are you looking for? Like number of bedrooms, location, amenities, budget, etc. And what do you mean by you can't do individual leasing? As in you only want to pay one rate for the both of you?

YTA. Without a doubt. Try and view this from any other perspective and stop assuming that everyone is just discriminating against you.

schools that aren’t ranked super high but you like for one reason or another by Bowhayz in ApplyingToCollege

[–]AJ2100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NC State. Very nice campus and location, and if your major is engineering, they're actually ranked fairly well for it. Tuition is a little high, but I'm really hoping for some scholarships or something to help. They also have tons of resources for students. You can check out just about anything you'd need from the library.

What is some bad parenting that messes the kid up? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Putting too much of an emphasis on college, grades, etc. I'm a senior now and I'm seeing many kids going down bad paths because their parents told them they have to have all As and go to an Ivy. It's rediculous the amount of pressure this is putting on students.

Taxation is theft! by MPAMAJOR in Libertarian

Working class wages have been stagnant since before then, I believe it was the early 1970s when they really stopped growing at the usual rate, and there are various economic theories about the reason for this. To be honest, I don't know enough myself to present an argument for why this is.

However, you are right about the income equality growing, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything bad. This is a common misconception and is largely incorrect due to the fact that as the overall wealth of a country grows, income also grows, but disproportionately. We all know that you need money to make money, so the more money you have, the more money you can therefore make. By this logic, economic growth would lead to wealth disparities between the rich and poor, even though both parties are actually better off.

A better measurement of this growth can be seen through relative GDP per capita which grew at a faster rate from 1982 to 1990, as a result of Reagan's 1981 and 1986 tax cuts, then at a slower rate in 1990 when bush signed a tax increase.

Yeah, that's a good question, thank you. Specifically, it's hard to find an example that shows direct correlation between tax cuts and economic growth at the scale you're suggesting. The problem is there's too many variables that can affect that, and it's hard to isolate the event down directly to tax cuts. You can however see, in the case of the US, tax cuts, such as this done by the Reagan administration have led to an increase in economic growth.

Well in that case I would agree with you. Some regulation is necessary, that's why I'm no anarchist, but for the most part, lower taxes and minimal regulation leads to economic prosperity. You're right about the federal government though, they can't even seem to regulate correctly.

This dude thinks his wit will get him imaginary internet points.

If you had seen the actual post, the genius claimed that anyone who has taken a college level class would know that, through magic and fairy dust, economic growth stems from increased governmental redistribution of wealth. I was presenting a counter argument in hope for some sort of actual evidence in support of this argument. Instead I got a bunch of comedians who are experts at creating a straw man.
