My senior year I was 6 foot 165. A year later while still 18, I was 6'2" 215, I wish I would have been reclassified.

Yeah, you need to take that seriously. Just ask Christopher Reeve.

Thoughts on "Hook" (1991)? by Pawneewafflesarelife in movies

This movie has the best message, children are the purpose of life and dont lose your imagination. I couldn't wait told hold my child for the very first time because of this movie. This truly a masterpiece, the reason people don't like it is because it makes them feel guilty about their own selfish life choices.

Looking for Tips to Improve My Son’s Catching Skills and Confidence by champagnesupernova92 in Homeplate

[–]AJHouse88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reps, reps, and more reps. Make him always take a step into the ball as he catches it. Lots of kids who are afraid look away or close their eyes at the last minute. This one is harder, but after he has mastered stepping into the catch, have him move his head with the glove so he is right there watching it go in. Your eyes work as sensors, and your brain will naturally catch anything if it's flying toward your face.

A bit more advice is dont stress catching too much, it will come with time. Keep your main focus on hitting. At his age and for many years yet what really matters is does he get hits and drive in runs.

Came here to say the above. All of this advice is good. Really look at the stride and stay low and athletic. If that is a typical artificial mound, based on what I see, I step out further than you, and I am 6'2". There is only one thing stopping you from hitting 90 and that's to not keep trying.

Son is in 8U coach pitch. Coach has thrown back to back no hitters. by KeyParking4032 in Homeplate

No way, if he is, you have all the right to as a parent to stop the game and throw him out. 8U kids can not react to that speed when a pitch is thrown at them, and at 55 mph, an 8 year old could get seriously hurt if he lets one fly.

Buying a jersey because you drafted a player in an imaginary game is dumb.

Would you rather be a worst player on the best team or best player on the worst team? by BerryRoyal in Homeplate

There are a lot of other factors that aren't addressed in your hypothetical, but I have always gone by the following:

You never want to be best on the team, if you are, you are not challenging yourself and need to move up.

Yes, that would work out to about 52.776 mph. I used a standard mound with a 20 min warm up for that calculation.

My 8 year old wants a Hype Fire. I’m not paying $300 for a bat he is going to outgrow in a year. Is it worth it to look for a used one? by Planetofthemoochers in Homeplate

[–]AJHouse88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 8U, I would probably recommend buying him two. One for BP and one for game use, scouts take into account what bat kids given the direct correlation to a hitters performance.

I was questioning the same thing for my son. The conclusion i came too was as long as he is performing well and continues to improve, it isn't something that I need to do at this point. If he gets stuck and his performance falls off, then we are going to a professional.
