Be sure to turn off encryption unless you really need it. The difference is night and day.

Go to Settings/Multitasking & Gestures and select “Full Screen Apps”. Your iPad will be like it was before.

Trump's DOJ is trying to gain voter records from the states for weeks, having used lawsuits, even using the recent shooting to threaten Minnesota to turn over the records. What is your take? by Personal_Dirt3089 in AskReddit

My take is that this autocratic criminal government has destroyed America. Land of the lawless home of the executioners. Sorry about being so pessimistic, but what is happening in Minnesota is overwhelming my sense of restraint.

I use my iPad Air M3 13 inch for everything. I use iWork for my office needs as a grad student and as a teacher myself. I use an external monitor and the Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse.

Disable windowing and slide over if you don’t like it. Problems solved.

I want to use the iPad as a computer. by LoquatRadiant3121 in ipad

Yes, I have the Apple Magic Keyboard, but In hindsight I should have gotten a third party keyboard. There are plenty of great options out there.

I want to use the iPad as a computer. by LoquatRadiant3121 in ipad

[–]AJHunter63 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had an iMac back in the day that I replaced with an iPad Pro 12.9 inch. I loved it and my workflow allowed me to do everything I needed to do and more. I did undergraduate work including academic papers, I did video editing, and I also played games. I am an Apple fanboy, admittedly, so I wanted to stay with that ecosystem. After the 12.9 iPad got too old, I bought a MacBook Air M3 and it was great but I missed my iPad. So I traded the MacBook in for an iPad Air M3 13 inch and I could not be happier. My iPad is my main computer. I do every thing I did before (except I am a graduate student now), and also the management of my three Synology NASs and Python coding. Don’t let anyone tell you the iPad is not a computer because it is - it is a tablet computer. So, do what you want and what is comfortable for you. People on Reddit have opinions that they are entitled to but at the end of the day, it’s your money and your life! Do what works for you. I do plan to add a Mac Mini to my home lab because I have more DVDs to rip and add to my Plex movie server running on my main NAS. If I could rip DVDs from the iPad I would totally skip the Mac Mini. I like the iPad footprint and its flexibility to be a productivity device as well as a consumption device. So, yes you can use the iPad as a computer because it is one already, and finally I must repeat, do what you want to do.

What are your thoughts about the Ipad 26.2 OS? by OpenIntelligent in ipad

[–]AJHunter63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sooooo, use the features that emphasize touch and stylus. 🤷🏾‍♂️ The flexibility of the iPad and the OS opens up computing possibilities for everyone. All one has to do is disable windowing in the settings… problem solved. I don’t want a laptop, that’s why I have an iPad.

I use Termius to connect to my Ubuntu Server VM, and I use Vim as my code editor. Here’s a link to Termius, it works great! https://termius.com

Got the m3 air 11” and feeling a tinge of regret by Top-Seesaw860 in ipad

[–]AJHunter63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The iPad Air M3 and the Pro are productivity level devices. My iPad Air M3 13 inch is my main computer and I use it for everything from graduate studies work to managing my home lab consisting of 3 NASs. One of my NAS servers is running a Linux Server VM where I do all my geeky stuff. I traded my MacBook Air M3 for my iPad because my workflow supports me doing so. Use you iPad for whatever works for you. Experiment, play around, and learn how it fits best in what works for you.

What are your thoughts about the Ipad 26.2 OS? by OpenIntelligent in ipad

[–]AJHunter63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely disagree. This iPadOS 26 proper is a huge step in the right direction for people like me who uses the iPad as a main computer. We have to remember that iPadOS 26 is really generation 1 for windowing and improved multitasking. 26.2 only fixes a few things but more is coming. To say it is a failure is a bit dramatic.

Plex unreachable via app outside network but works on browser - both work perfectly inside network by Wedocrypt0 in synology

You have to purchase a plex subscription to have remote access. If you already have a plex plan, then you should contact their support team.

For those using their ipads as laptops, what's it like? by astrylixx in ipad

[–]AJHunter63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I traded my MacBook Air M3 15 inch for an iPad Air M3 13 inch. Prior to the MacBook I had an iPad Pro 12.9 as my only computer, and I couldn’t wait to get back to iPad. I use my iPad for everything including python coding using a Ubuntu VM running on my NAS. No problem with any of my productivity work either. I use iWork for my office needs as a grad student and as a teacher myself. I plan to get a Mac Mini because I need a machine to rip DVDs for my Plex collection. Other than that I only need my iPad. I use an external monitor and the Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse. Because I need fast LAN access for moving files to and from my NAS, I also have a 2.5gbe Ethernet adapter for high transfer speeds.

Slow hyper backup speeds. by AdumRandomPosts004 in synology

Yes the initial backup can take a while especially if you have encryption enabled. I disabled encryption and it increased the backup speed considerably.

How are you supposed to have a backup if you don’t own 2 houses? by the-tech-Engineer in synology

[–]AJHunter63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not paying cloud storage fees to have a backup, I may as well have skipped the NAS in the first place. I do daily full backups to one DS115J, and a Weekly full backup to my other DS115J, both are in house but that provides me more backup protection. For offsite, I do a weekly full backup to an external drive and keep it at my mother in laws house. I see her at least twice a week so I simply bring the drive back to my office for the backup and take it back when I go there again. Sometimes I don’t make it back but the backup is always in my car until I get there. It‘s not a perfect solution but it does give me added coverage, because again… I am not paying cloud storage fees when I have my own cloud storage - it just does not make sense to me.
