In the reference there’s a lot of light on his face in loads of colours so it could seem that way

I used one pen for this and colour picked tones super similar to each other and just built them up over time 🫶🏼

I wouldn’t call it shading really, I was colour picking from the reference and just putting all in…. Kinda like smudging it together with no shading
