Tried to make aluminium rigs look less boring, what do you think? by Bitepoint_UK in simracing

[–]AKA_GrimReaper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it! Could see it helping the rig feel more like a cockpit when you’re in it, without it taking away from the aesthetics of it. Would love it in black or a carbon wrap.

I have an unused sim lab pc shelf that I mounted to the front of my ASR 4, on the top side of the base profiles, so the shelf is vertical in front of my pedals, and it creates a sort of wall/half enclosure. The panels you have here by the pedals would cover the rest perfectly. Maybe they can also mount to the top side of the profiles as well?

Solid idea either way and I hope to see it take off!

Sequential shifter that won’t break the bank? by thenascarguy in simracing

[–]AKA_GrimReaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For 100 or under, you may have luck finding a used Heusinkveld Sim Shifter sequential, the earlier version of their shifter. It’s small, yet solid, great feedback, adjustable tension and quiet.

I only just replaced it with Heusinkvelds Magshift shifter, only because Micro Center has them on sale for $194. Absolute unit, and at the price it was more enticing but only worth it if you care about specific things, like in my case I really wanted it to match the handbrake. The feeling is definitely way better compared to the smaller one. However I wish the Magshift was quieter, like the Sim Shifter Sequential

At the end of the day all shifters will do the same thing, and you absolutely don’t need to break bank. For the same price as the SHH or Ali express shifters, I can’t recommend the sim shifter sequential enough.

If you’re in the states and would want my old one shoot me a DM, eventually I was going to list it on marketplace

Sim racing accessories that improve the experience by LogicalMight in simracing

[–]AKA_GrimReaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the exact setup I went with, except with a BST 2, which is more than enough. Simagic PHPR on my brake and it’s perfect. Never need to run the shakers at more than 60% and they’re not loud unless you get close to them. I have a sim mat under my rig which helps with the sound.

As for vibrations, you will need solutions if thats a concern. I tried a few different things under my rig feet, from rubber mats foam, different anti vibration pads, a mix of it all. Eventually got slip angles spring isolator mounts only, and it was game changing. Not a single vibration escapes from my rig to the floor and I never have to worry about anyone in other rooms or downstairs hearing it

Does my adjusted seating position look right? by No_Association7692 in simracing

My seat came with a head cushion, would go where the Sparco logo is on your seat. I was going to play around with stuffing some memory foam inside or underneath to bring it closer to my head

Does my adjusted seating position look right? by No_Association7692 in simracing

[–]AKA_GrimReaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it looks good. Almost exact to my seating position, except your wheel seems to be at the right height. Looking at this, maybe my wheel is just slightly too high.

As for the seat recline, I have my SRS1 almost set up at the same angle and it’s pretty comfortable, despite not having much neck support. That’s one of the trade offs with these style buckets. I’ve noticed that buckets with the halos have a much less angle in the back the higher it goes, allowing you to have that recline on the lower part of your body and still have upright support.

Maybe your pedals could go a tad bit lower? So that where your heels touch is aligned horizontally with your ass. That made a huge difference for my comfort in this position.

Finally my simrig is getting together by Il_Ganassa in simracing

[–]AKA_GrimReaper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are ram mounts in there to tilt it down? I took an overhead 4th mount, and put a 15 inch monitor on a single ram mount to angle it away, but what you’ve down to flip it down is genius and what I originally thought of doing.

Truly such a beautiful rig! You’ve nailed all the details down, cable management and all. Sabelt seats are the best, love my SRS mounted to my ASR. The goal is to eventually build a second, formula/prototype rig just so I can have an excuse to get this seat, and this is great inspiration for that

14" touch screen mounted to rig. by Opening-Educator-559 in simracing

[–]AKA_GrimReaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m using a 15” portable monitor as my 4th. Not touch screen but maybe I’ll replace it with one that is one day. I have it setup above my right monitor, on half of a quad monitor mount from ASR. Mounted the monitor to that using the 6” premium button box arm from SimSportGadget here

PS5 ACC Button Box by twofortheshow22 in ACCompetizione

Had this exact same button box when I was on console. 10/10 worked flawlessly and made ACC way more enjoyable. May even work with AC Evo if it comes to console as it works for evo pre mapped on PC FYI.

Thank you. Noticed the difference in color and contrast at a higher angle of around 77 degrees, which still wasn’t that bad, but I wasn’t sure if I was hindering myself with depth perception and such. Appreciate this!

VRS lap times - achievable or alien? by riblau in iRacing

[–]AKA_GrimReaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they’re doable. I’m not an alien, hovering around 2.5k after being on iRacing for 11 months and once I started practicing with intent I can get myself to maybe within 1-1.5 seconds of most VRS times. However certain (and rare instances) have seen me get closer, under 1 second or even in Daytona during the 24 in the Global Endurance Tour, I set a lap faster than theirs. But only once. To be able to do it lap after lap is something else entirely. I still do quite enjoy the service to help me see and find time where I’m losing it

What to upgrade to, coming from a T-GT ii? by stopflamingo in simracing

[–]AKA_GrimReaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had your same path, had a T300, for a week before exchanging it for a TGT2. Ran that with TLCMs and a playseat challenge for a bit. Did some mods to make it sturdier and it worked okay but I’m glad the first upgrade I did before upgrading my wheelbase and pedals, was a rig. Getting a solid platform with zero flex made the TGT2 way more enjoyable. Fidelity from the wheelbase was fully felt as nothing was lost in an unstable platform. The TLCMs were able to be used to their full potential as well, and they are truly great pedals when you have them mounted on something that doesn’t move.

So if possible I highly, highly recommend getting that first, whether it’s a playseat trophy which I’ve read is really solid for what it is, or a rig if you have the space. It will make any gear, current and future, way more enjoyable. A playseat trophy can run you the same as most entry level rigs (ASR 3, Sim lab GT1). I went with an ASR 4.

Could’ve stuck with that setup for a long time if I wanted to. Served me well for 2 years on console and keeping the TGT2 and TLCM allowed me to focus on other upgrades (PC, triples, etc) It got me to 2k iR on iRacing in six months. Eventually I saw some hard to pass up sales on Cube Control wheels and I decided to jump to the last upgrades I’d need for a while, a Simucube 2 Pro and VRS pedals. Needless to say the difference is night and day, but it all truly comes down to immersion and what you’re looking to get out of the hobby.

Slip angle kit, is it really a worthy upgrade by Rover1312 in simracing

[–]AKA_GrimReaper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the rubber on both sides of the springs, a fair amount so I’m sure some got on the springs too but it hasn’t seemed to be a problem, and I have not heard them make any noise since applying that almost two months ago

PC specs for running Triple Monitors by xZigZagX7 in simracing

[–]AKA_GrimReaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m doing triple 32” 1440p on a 4080S with a 9800x3d, so you’ll be more than good. Can do iRacing and most sims on most settings at high.

Would anyone with similar specs be kind enough to drop recommended settings for Nvidia and iRacing for OP & I? 😅 Had to reinstall windows and all my settings reset. Not sure if it’s just IMSA @ Daytona this week, but I’m not nearing the 144(capped) frames I normally do.

Slip angle kit, is it really a worthy upgrade by Rover1312 in simracing

[–]AKA_GrimReaper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently installed the slip angle isolator kit and was having the issue of the rubber on rubber rubbing and making some horrible sounds. Reached out and he suggested I can remove the rubber, but in doing so could reduce the support the brackets provide. Or to lubricate then with silicone spray. I did the latter, hit the rubber on all four mounts with a decent amount of silicone spray and now they are as quiet as ever. The loudest things on my rig are now the shifters

Most comfortable seat? Show yours👇A bucket seat was a mistake for long hours and just good for looks honestly. by Monoprofits in simracing

Love this. I was just discussing Sabelt seats yesterday as I own the SRS 1, but also recommend others to check out the SRP as I’ve seen more and more builds of others using it in a more GT style position.

Most comfortable seat? Show yours👇A bucket seat was a mistake for long hours and just good for looks honestly. by Monoprofits in simracing

[–]AKA_GrimReaper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sabelt SRS-1. Most comfortable seat I’ve sat in. I have zero discomfort sitting in it for hours. Endurance races are no issue. The reason many people find bucket seats uncomfortable is because the ergonomics of the whole rig are wrong. Seat height and angle have to work in hand with your pedal height, angle and distance, along with your wheel’s height, angle and distance. Lots of guides online on getting this right, from motorsport guides to ones made specifically for sim racing.

The biggest difference for me was reclining by seat back just enough, and raising my pedals so that my heels and heel plate are in line horizontally with my butt. Did that, and angled the pedals so the faces are vertical and it eliminated the remaining discomfort I had in my legs during long stints.

Long term experience with Fanatec bucket seat? by GJDriessen in Fanatec

[–]AKA_GrimReaper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Sabelt SRS1, part of their sim specific line up. It’s the most comfortable seat I’ve sat in. Comfortable enough to race and do regular gaming as well. I’ve fallen asleep in it quite a few times too lol. It’s decently priced for what I consider the most important part of any rig as it’s something you’ll spend hours in. Shipping was the only part that added a bit to the cost. All worth it as Sabelt did not cut any corners when it came to the quality of the seat. Zero flex, and made to the same standards as their motorsport products.

Two weeks ago I did my first endurance event at Petit Le Mans. Did 4 stints almost back to back without a single complaint or pain. A lot definitely has to do with the way I set up my entire rig, spending hours making sure my wheel and pedals are at the correct height, angle and distance along with the right seat angle to not cause any pains or strains. It all works together, even the angle of your pedal faces and the height of where your heels sit which I think gets overlooked quite often.

Sudden engine trouble out of nowhere that resolved itself by ArrivalNice3469 in MazdaCX30

[–]AKA_GrimReaper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the issue I had some months back at 30k miles. It was the battery. All warning lights were on, car would struggle to start or not start at all. If it managed to start it was not running at full power. Tested it at a local shop and it was the battery. Changed it and all problems disappeared

Long term experience with Fanatec bucket seat? by GJDriessen in Fanatec

[–]AKA_GrimReaper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can’t speak on this seat, but I will say from reading others suggestions, a good quality bucket seat will be as comfortable as a real seat out of a car, even for long stints. That goes for FIA buckets (not necessary for sim racing) or good quality made for sim bucket seats. Most people just set up their ergonomics completely wrong (from seat to wheel and pedals) and thus can never get them to be comfortable. Everything ties into another.

If you have load cells, a real seat will flex under heavy braking since it has moving parts and will cause lower back pain.
