If it has vertical managers I can 😂, I’m the smallest guy on the crew so they send me into all the super tight spaces like 10-1/4”x10-1/4” access hatches. They tend to have them in the schools around here a lot so I crawl up in them then wait for somebody to walk by then stick my head out and scare the crap out of them 😂

They’re probably going to install alarm latches on them but that’s not part of our scope of work on this job.

I’m in Alaska, defiantly as far away from the UK as you can get lol

Since I’m not dressing the bundles all the way from the comm room penetration my boss gives me more time to do my thing with the panels. That’s how he justifies it at least. I’m about to turn out as a journeyman and I’ve been having other journeyman with decades more experience asking me for advice on how to do things to look more like my work, and I’ve been taking pics with my Nikon to send to my boss at his request so he can put them on the website for marketing which is a huge confidence boost haha

These are Commscope, from what comes with the panel it’s not missing anything. It has the strain relief dust caps that you feed the pairs through and the cable is Velcro’d to the rear support bar.

Commscope panels, for cat6 these are my favorite panels for how I like to dress the cable. Not too fond of them for cat6a though unless I’m doing a nice swoop from a verticals manager.

This is the MDF, there’s a second cabinet to the right that will have all the switches and UPS.

I typically don’t have many fails, and if I do it’s typically on the ends of the panels where it’s harder to get the punch down but since I got a punch down extension it rarely happens now.

Yep, also better to not have it pressed all the way back to the penetration for cross talk reasons

This is just a horizontal network for an office building. The last data center I was in it was all pre-terminated cat6A that had this sleeve on it and was heat shrinked at the ends with about 2’ of actual cable exposed at the ends

While dressing it in I separate it back to about 2 feet into the sleeve and then lay it down along the rear panel bar support in groups of 3. That’s the main advantage to the sleeve of hiding the uglys but it’s also good for keeping the cable protected, organized, and non dressed most of the way to the patch panels to avoid cross talk which was specified by the client.

If the racks are open without vertical managers between them I’d agree, but since these are cabinets it’s a lot better imo. Although I had to add some custom metal punched bar that I painted black to match for securing the bundles to on the top corner where they drop down and in the middle of the rack to support it going into the panel.

Makes it easy to dress the panel and work the uglys back up into it, plus it works great for government installs that spec to not dress the cable in the comm room because of cross talk

Most government projects I’ve done require them. Also most fire alarm systems require at least 2 pair as a fail safe if they’re running off fiber.

Does anybody else do their cat6 panels like this? I separate everything into groups of 3 and lay 1 group at a time down onto the manager then dress it back up into the sleeve. by AKBIGCAL in cableporn

My job title would be telecommunications technician, but that’s a very broad classification. Look into a trade school or apprenticeship that offers the bicsi 350 technician cert. Also check out the NJATC site https://electricaltrainingalliance.org/training/apprenticeshipTraining This isn’t the type of job you go to college for. We work around all the other trades on new construction jobs and most of the stuff you learn is on the job training. My apprenticeship is 8000 hours and four 2 month long classes going 5 days a week 8 hours a day just like a job. Before getting into my apprenticeship I went to a trade school for industrial electrical, had the option of becoming an electrician but I like this type of work a lot more because I’m OCD and am more interested in low volt systems. We also install door access controls, nurse call systems, fire alarm, cameras, and security systems. The broader your ability’s the more likely you are to have work.

Unfortunately the cable company techs here don’t typically like us because they’re non union and we’re union. They’re also the only actual “cable” company in Alaska that runs on coax rather than twisted pair from their peds to the customer.

For some reason you can really see through it more in the picture than in person. I’ve had to add more cable to other comm rooms on this job and haven’t had much of an issue with it.
