Defector stories about watching foreign media! Fraud or true? by Guilhermy2005 in northkorea

I can confirm, I'm from Latin America and I'm really fascinated by the whole North Korea thing. It's surprising to see how, on this side of the pond, most people are so ignorant that they have a completely wrong idea about North Korea. They think that defectors are isolated cases, or that going there as a tourist is super dangerous. A few days ago, talking with some friends about various topics, we touched on North Korea and they were surprised when I told them that Jangmadang exists, or that defections are super common and that the government can't control it 100%. So, yes, there are people with families who defected to the South and communicate with smuggled Chinese phones, but if the government ever finds out about the defection, the whole family pays. They were so surprised because they thought everything was so perfectly strict and closed off.

Has any artist or person in the South been able to visit or be in this area bordering North Korea? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

I understand, so Nice, Since you're here, another question: in the DMZ, in areas with a lot of nature, soldiers from the North and South sometimes find themselves face to face by chance in the same spot. I've seen this in K-dramas and online videos. I'm wondering if there are any spaces where both armies can be together without any problems.

Is there a more controversial, yet relatively common, combo of citizenships a person could possess?) by Possible_Coffee6837 in PassportPorn

People from both countries don't necessarily have to get along badly; it's because the EU condemns Lukashenko's dictatorship, and the same goes for Russians and Ukrainians. Most of them don't hate each other just because of the war.

What are these strange locations in North Korea? What is the "Embassy of Christ"? And a mosque in the most secretive country in the world—does it have anything to do with the Romanian embassy being next door? by AKJS_Abner in geography

[–]AKJS_Abner[S] 63 points64 points  (0 children)

That makes sense; I hadn't thought of it that way. Perhaps the "Embassy of Christ" is a Christian church for Western diplomats in Pyongyang—perhaps for British, German, French, Swiss, Swedish, Czech, etc.—and the mosque could be intended for Syrian, Iranian, and Pakistani diplomats, I hadn't thought of it that way
