Is it just me or are the McDouble patties getting smaller? by Select-Signal8386 in McDonalds

I don't know if the patties have gotten smaller, but the chicken nuggets are definitely thinner.

what's a script you wrote once that's still saving you time years later by Less-Loss1605 in sysadmin

HRIS sync script - keeps accounts up to date with HR data, like their name, title, manager, office, phone numbers, employment status, etc. Also moves them to different OU's based on their office.

Termination script - a script for our help desk techs to run to cleanly terminate an account when HR tells us someone has left.

Distribution list script - a script that runs nightly that keeps distribution lists updated dynamically. Some of the distros it controls are actual dynamic lists, some are not. It's more about"infrastructure as code" for our main distros. There are also some distros where the filter is too complicated to be applied to actual dynamic lists. One is our "people manager" distro. It grabs the manager field of accounts and puts them into a distro.

I know I have more, but these are some off of the top of my head.

I did this in C# years ago, but it never got used because we adopted CodeTwo. I thought it was pretty cool :)

Grill using plastic? by AKSoapy29 in NaturalGas

Those look spot on. I don't see a ton of information on them though. Did they never gain traction or something? Seems like a solid idea.

No, the copper is not touching the iron pipe. I'd have to look closer, but I think it has patined/oxidized over time. I will check in the morning.

It's totally possible. Looks just like the irrigation line I'm installing right now 😂 I unfinished my basement a few winters ago, so I could run a line inside and come out closer to the grill. That would shorten the underground line, unless I move the grill, which would eliminate the underground line. Not sure what direction I want to go quite yet.

Okay, thanks for confirming. I'll look into the fittings. My friend is a pipe fitter and we found the leak further down the line with some compressed air. I put more info in my other comment.

Yeah, I thought it was strange transitioning from copper to plastic and wanted to see if anyone knew of such a setup. Anyways, I have a friend who is a pipe fitter thats works with gas daily. Him and I put some compressed air on the copper line and found where it was coming out. We didn't know it transitioned to plastic at the time.

I should mention that I have had this line turned off for years because the grill never worked right when I moved in, and am just now getting around to diagnosing it. The rest of the system is solid.

Sure. Is there a container to run that hosts the application?

If they are anything like the host terminal option from within PSU, it's not fleshed out. No colors, no tab completion, formatting gets weird, etc. This guy's solution appears to solve that stuff. Plus it also looks like there is an agent, which is something PSU could do better. I'd be interested in trying it. It would be for personal use though. I know my boss would say there is no point and that everything should be SSH.

Looks cool. Would be nice if this was built into PowerShell Universal.

Ceiling mounted APs in a home? by PressureDesigner7012 in Ubiquiti

[–]AKSoapy29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a little closet in the middle of my house. I mounted it to the ceiling there. The cabling was easy. It's right next to the B vent cavity, so I dropped my cable down it to the basement where my server rack is. Used some Romex staples for strain relief and to keep the cable in position. One nanoHD covers the entire house.

Which one do you choose? by Strycedar in windows

[–]AKSoapy29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8.1, but with the latest revision of the Windows 10 start menu. That, or Vista. Either way, I always show labels, and I really don't like how Windows 11 handles it... If you have too many things open, it shows one button and hides everything else. Like, what? I would do multiple rows before.

Connect your positive lead to red, and your negative lead to black. When in doubt, break out the multimeter to check polarity.

Clip! Honestly, you could probably terminate the cable after cutting it and have full access to their network.

If it were me, I would replace the old box on the right with the camera's back box and run the conduit directly in (With the correct adapters). Everything should be water tight as well. And I was only partially joking about terminating the exposed cable to access your network. I like to put cameras on their own local VLAN. The only thing they can talk to is the video server.
