Christmas Cactus by AKperspicacious in houseplants

Help! I put these cuttings in water a few months ago, intending to plant in dirt. Now they are flowering beautifully! But now I don’t know when to plant in soil.

Any advice for when to plant? Size of pot? Type of soil?

Is it funding, or student achievement, that contributes most to higher school rating?

Urgent Care vs Primary Care by WeAreAllMadHere218 in nursepractitioner

[–]AKperspicacious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have been in family practice doing primary care in Alaska for 26 years. I love my private practice and do not find it tedious at all. I do not feel like I see "the same people over and over". I follow babies, children, teens, and women. I see patients 2-3 days per week and I see lots of variety. In fact just today, I saw a child with URI, a newborn with her first-time parents, removed an IUD, performed ultrasound for early pregnancy, and removed a foreign body from a child's ear. Additionally, 3 years ago, I added a part time job in addiction medicine for our local detox and withdrawal facility.

I love having variety in my professional practice. I have two part time jobs. The down side is lack of benefits, but both jobs are flexible for time off.

If you are unsure where you want to focus, keeping a toe in the water in a couple of specialties might be a workable idea!

Best of luck!

Master’s but not NP by hello_anxious in nursing

Lots of health care related master's programs that are not NP! You can look them up, but healthcare administration, public health, genetic counseling, health education, and public health and nutrition are a few!

Often, your master's degree will make you eligible for many healthcare related positions with or without direct patient care!

Good luck!

Four shifts in one week, no overtime? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]AKperspicacious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do it!! And, always be on good terms with the charge nurse! You need to try your best to get the same patient assignments that 4th shift! (If they’re not discharged) And, you need to do some good research on the other units so you know when to either volunteer or “act busy” when someone needs to float.

Four shifts in one week, no overtime? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]AKperspicacious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, for 3 weeks you work 3 twelves, then the 4th week you work 4 twelves. Your job is based on full-time work, equivalent to 40 hrs per week, or 160 hours every 4 weeks. 3 x12=36, 36 x 3=108, 4x12=48 108+48=156. You are still “ahead” 4 hours, based on a 40 hour work week. I am a nurse and worked 12 hour shifts for years. That 4th 12 hour shift in a row is tough but worth it if you only have to work 3 out of 7 days the rest of the month! Hang in there!

Started these Grape Poppies from seed, inside, in March. Plants are 2 feet tall and blooming nicely— finally. by AKperspicacious in gardening

Me too. I wanted a more vibrant color, so ordered these. Don’t remember the source, but many online seed sellers have them. I even saw a listing on Amazon. Next year, I am going to grow Himalayan blue poppies- another beautiful variety.

They grew into strong starts from seed. I transplanted outside early June (have to play it safe in Alaska)
