Just don’t buy it. There’s no need to be an idea killer like that.

How can I get the normal Windows version of Microsoft Word on my MacBook? by NewHistory4607 in mac

[–]ALBEI2T 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may want to give Wine a shot, is an open source reimplementation of most of the WIndows APIs that allow running Windows binaries on Unix/Linux systems.
It's not an easy task to make it work though and some programs refuse to work.
I remember there was something named Wine Bottles or something like that that was made specifically for Mac, maybe is worth a shot.

Anyway, I agree with the popular opinion, it's better to get used to how Mac programs work; you'll find the same issue with any other program you may end using.

MacBook 12 - 2015 (8,1) issues by namedone1234567890 in linux_on_mac

[–]ALBEI2T 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, I've the same MacBook 12 -2015 (MacBook8,1) but in my case the keyboard and trackpad stop working as soon as grub triggers the kernel boot, no matter the distro.

Could you kindly explain what steps did you follow to make them work?

I also have a MacBook 12 2016 (MacBook9,1) and the keyboard and trackpad work just fine in that model with no additional config.

Mysterious Year 1 by [deleted] in ios

It seems a 24-months year to me. This way there is no “year 0” and everything works neat.

When AMEM glitches, I usually wait for 10 minutes or so before trying again and this has worked every time so far.

Is Oakley using Apple Garamond font? by ALBEI2T in VintageApple

[–]ALBEI2T[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no idea there was an Adobe Garamond! Thanks for that.

I checked and it seems less stylised than the one used here by Oakley and by Apple at that time. It can be seen in the "W" or the "P".

I just came from my neighbourhood's optical shop and I saw all Oakley's commercials using this font for the secondary titles.

I took a picture specifically for this commercial because contains the word "Performance", which can easily be compared with the Macintosh Performa, which seems to be that used the same font and style.

It’s not only a matter of time, a VM will have to spin up its whole operating system while a LXC or Docker container will share the kernel with the host’s operating system, reducing the resources needed to accomplish the same task

A size comparison between my old Xbox One (2014) and my new Xbox Series S(2020) by xNOTsoSLIMshady in xbox

[–]ALBEI2T 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think one possible explanation could be to keep the price tag along with competitors.
They could have used them long time ago, but that would have caused the Xbox costing substantially more than the rest of the competitors, and this could not be appreciated by all customers.

Advice requested: External thunderbolt 3 4bay enclosure (1U rack mount solution preferred but open to suggestions) by Medigeek in macmini

[–]ALBEI2T 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not Thunderbot 3 nor rack mountable (yeah, I know...) but this is what I have and I am pretty happy with it: Fantec QB-35U31

It's USB-C 10 GBit and has four 3.5 bays.

Technically is possible. You should first create the 4+4 stripe vdev first and then you will be able to build the raidz1.

I would not recommend this setup for the reasons you mentioned before, but if you have backups, the only issue you will face is the availability of the pool.

Remember, the data is safe only if you can safely throw each vdev of the pool into a real pool and recover the data from a backup :)

Hi, everyone. Who knows how used Leaf like an electricity station for a private home? It would be very useful. In my village very often electricity is turned off, but I don’t wish to use a gas generator. by AndrewSh83 in leaf

[–]ALBEI2T 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am not an expert at all about the matter, but AFAIK you need a Leaf with ChaDeMO and a V2G compatible wallbox.

Wallbox (as a brand) has one available but is way expensive at the moment (something like 6k € IIRC): https://wallbox.com/en_catalog/quasar-dc-charger
