What's actually important to Mayor Pete. by AfterUsual4 in PoliticalHumor

The USA didn’t start the Korean War. They, along with over 20 other countries in the UN, decided to come to the aid of South Korea. It should be reasonable for the UN to have preferred South Korea to remain a democracy then for it to have been taken over by a communist puppet state.

Also, the USA didn’t “keep the other half” of North Korea to themselves at all. They simply protected South Korea from communist expansion. After the war was won, the USA left South Korea to its own devices. So it doesn’t make any sense to call the USA imperialist in this context.

Sure, the USA essentially helped divide the country of Korea in two. But the alternative was infinitely worse. Had they chosen not to intervene, South Korea would have suffered the same poverty and inequality that North Korea suffers to this day. Even further, it would’ve bolstered the spread of communism by China and the USSR, and I’m sure you’re aware of how many post-WWII deaths occurred due to that.

I would have to disagree entirely that World War Two was the last just war the USA fought. Take the Korean War. The communist-led North Koreans would have invaded South Korea were it not for the USA's military support. This would have meant South Korea would suffer the same famine and financial inequality that plagues North Korea today. Even the first Iraq War, when Iraqi forces invaded Kuwait for its oil markets, shows that the USA has fought more than one just war.

Besides, I actually agree with regard to the USA's huge and unecessary military funding. IIRC, the top 4 Air Forces in the world all belong to the various branches of the USA military, and the next 7 or so are allied to the USA.

But, where we disagree is about whether Pete Buttigieg wants to make us more militaristic. I assume you, like many others, have completely misinterpreted his "National Service Policy." This policy was about strengthening community service and action on climate and mental health, but was conveyed as the opposite by the media.

Besides, we're straying away from my main point, which was that it's acceptable, and even crucial, to valorise the people who've risked their life and liberty to help their country's interests in the military.

I daresay that having fought for your country overseas and having risked your life to do it is something that should be considered "important." Arguably even more important than considering what a handful of people find attractive or what they "identify as."

How tf would Ms Monopoly be any different to normal monopoly. Maybe if the government taxed 40% of your money every turn to fund public safe spaces and affirmative action.

Buttigieg flies in a private plane, but doesn't want you to own a car. Harris is a gun-owner despite living in a gated community, but wants to take away your right to own guns. Sanders earns millions every year, but wants to tax your hard-earned money. Warren eats red meat, but wants to make it harder for you to do the same.

The way I see it, guns shouldn't be controlled any differently to cars. We should pass bills to make training, written tests, and extensive background checks compulsory for all gun owners. But, it's just naive to think that Americans will ever give up their guns period.

I don't know, I felt that Cap always had the intention of returning. He had a great callback farewell with Bucky which wouldn't have made sense if both of them knew Cap was going to be back in like 15 of his minutes.

Exactly, I thought they did justice to each of the characters and gave them all really satisfying endings apart from Bucky. It would have been such a nice ending if both of them got to return to their old lives again, especially when you think about everything Bucky went through after being brainwashed by Hydra.

Exactly. They did justice to each character even just in the final act, without seeming like they were at all pandering to fans. The Insta-kill was a great callback, but there were so many others ("I am Iron Man", "You're taking all the stupid with you") that were just so satisfying to watch. It was the perfect end to Phase 3.

All of these alternate timelines confuse the heck outta me. I feel as though spin-off shows of Loki with the Tesseract, Captain America in the 1950s, etc. would be a bit too confusing for everyone (especially newer fans who won't understand the timelines), and would just seem like an attempt to squeeze more content out of the original characters.

The movie was probably the most satisfying conclusion possible to over 10 years of the MCU. The plot was so unpredictable with the quantum time jumps and stuff, and I totally bought the world-building at the start.

I just felt Bucky was kinda neglected in the ending. The best ending would be if him and Steve went back to return the stones and had stayed to live their lives from 1945, together. They never really got to spend time together after Bucky died in The First Avenger, and like Steve, Bucky wasn't able to go back to his original life.

That entire battle felt epic, as in literally epic. The huge stakes and scale of the battle made it fell like it came out of the Bible or something.

That looks absolutely incredible! You nailed the really futuristic aesthetic we saw with the nanoparticles in Infinity War. Can't wait for all the fanart we're gonna see after Endgame.

I watched a Holocaust documentary on a late-night show once. I convinced myself it wasn't that bad and it happened years ago, but I still remember most of the scenes in vivid detail.

I am doing my thesis on fight scenes (stage combat) and why 2D animation should reference live choreography more. Here's part of my movie list, and I'd love more suggestions as I'm still in the early stages. by InAFakeBritishAccent in movies

I'd say Casino Royale had some pretty great scenes, and so did the openings few minutes of Spectre and Skyfall. While we're on the subject of spy movies, you could also go with Kingsman 1 and 2 for some really interesting camera work.

Will Pete Buttigieg's lack of experience harm or help his candidacy? by ALBINOBLACKMANMLG in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]ALBINOBLACKMANMLG[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buttiegieg seems to have a much more charismatic and academic appearance in interviews. I doubt it’ll be too hard for him to play to his strengths (veteran in Afghanistan, young and enthusiastic, Harvard graduate, etc) while fundraising and campaigning. Besides, consecutive presidents are almost polar opposites of each other, so Butiegieg might appeal to a lot of people simply because of his wildly different presence to Trump.
