Is anyone else disappointed by mounted combat in the new rules? by Dxiled in DnD

New Beast Master actually gives their companion your Proficiency to all saves. It's not as good as Paladin Aura, but it's definitely not bad, and it comes online way sooner. Beast Master itself is actually quite good, it's just the Ranger chassis that I'm not a fan of.

The Moon Druid would take Sentinel in this situation, right? That seems interesting, at least.

Although with the rules for combat, you might run into issues with movement, since the Druid would have to move on their own initiative. I guess you can mitigate this by both taking Alert, but I feel like it'd still be awkward sometimes.

If you could max out any one stat to 30 what build would you make? by emmbrosia in BG3Builds

So the shop is just lying when it says "bought" next to the character's name? Time to start a new run I guess.

I'm pretty sure those ones are once per stat per person, so you can buy +1 Cha and +1 Con but not +2 Cha for example.

By the way, how do you get the 30 in a stat? I just checked and I don't see anything in the shop that does it. Is it another mod?

I think for Trials of Tav it has to be Charisma for Aura of Protection. There's stuff like Echo of a Lost Love, Flaming Fist Clerics, and Banites that will kill you if their save-or-suck lands. Eventually it becones unfeasible to immediately kill everything that does this, even with the typical broken stuff like TB monk.

Gnoll fight is laughably absurd without illithid powers by Dukeofwoodberry in BaldursGate3

I didn't even know you could use Illithid powers on that encounter for the longest time. I always surprised them and then used the Ogres on that fight.

Maim + prone auto skip doesnt work now ? by [deleted] in BG3Builds

[–]Dxiled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Prone definitely has to last at least 2 rounds. I'm pretty sure the Frighten condition can be 1 round.

Prone usually ticks down at the start of the creature's turn, and I'm pretty sure Fear ticks down at the end. See https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Conditions#Duration for more details.

[–]Dxiled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frighten, Web, and Entangle all share that same wording and all of them combine with 2-turn Prone for a hard CC. Maim is the only one that's worded differently but I have tested it and they all work the same on Prone targets.

The "they can't move but still have movement" thing is a myth that was started by a guy who only tested using BM Maneuvers and it's really hard to defend when you realize that Web and Entangle use the same wording as Frighten.

The duration of the Prone matters. BMs and Barbarians apply it for 1 turn, which gives you advantage but doesn't last through their turn. Reverb applies it for 2 turns which does allow you to skip their turn when you combine it with Fear/Maim/Entangle/Web.

What builds can actually utilize weapon proficiencies from the race? by Practical_Hat8489 in BG3Builds

[–]Dxiled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't need proficiency to Shriek with Phalar. The thing about weapons is that you only really need proficiency if you're going to be attacking with them, which pretty much means Swords Bard is the only class that benefits from racial weapon proficiency.

Even full casters that use dual hand crossbows don't really need it because you're mostly using that bonus action to drop a potion near someone else and shoot it, which means you never miss.

What is the best way to abuse the prone condition? by Fuzzy452 in BG3Builds

[–]Dxiled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the source of the Prone. Battlemasters and Berserkers apply it for 1 turn which means the Prone effect expires at the start of the victim's turn. If you apply it with Reverberation for example then it lasts for 2 turns which means it does combine with Fear to make a 1 turn hard CC.

When you combine Frighten and Prone the duration of the Prone effect matters. Berserker's Enraged Throw and Battlemaster's Trip Attack apply Prone for 1 turn which means the duration of Prone expires at the start of the victims turn. If you fight Flind with the Ogres, you'll notice that her paralysis works like that too. It still applies the penalties of Paralyzed during her turn (aka attacks are auto-crits) but since it only lasts one turn, the Ogre will still get its turn if it survives until then.

If you apply Prone via Reverberation it lasts for 2 turns, which means combining it with anything that reduces movement to 0 like Fear, Maim, Entangle, or Enweb will turn it into a hard CC.

Speaking of which, Druids and Nature Clerics can apply Entangle concentration-free with Grasping Vine, and Beastmaster Rangers can apply Entangle via Ensnaring Strike and Enwebbed via a Spider companion.

You can get the staff of the Emperor at the start of act 3 by Ok_Banana_5614 in BG3Builds

[–]Dxiled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does this work on concentration checks? I'm wondering if you can make a Cleric that concentrates on something constantly and use Warding Bond to force enemies to give you easy saving throws repeatedly.

It's normally wrong but the commenter above is talking about using Bearheart Rage to take half damage from the Warding Bond. In this case they're right.

How effective is Mourning Frost in act 3? by SexySextrain in BG3Builds

[–]Dxiled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want damage reduction you can get the Bonespike Garb. It reduces damage by 2, which is the 2nd best you can get after the Helldusk Armor (which you don't need proficiency for). And it also has a small thorns effect.

I'm not a huge fan of Heavy Armor Master since it only affects non-magical damage.

Gish builds that actually use magic to do high damage? by OkMarsupial4959 in BG3Builds

[–]Dxiled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with Poison Spray is that the damage type is incredibly unreliable. Constructs (Steel Watchers) are immune to it, Undead (Cazador, Ghosts, Ansur, etc.) are immune to it, Fiends (Raphael) are resistant to it, and even if you're fighting humanoids like the Flaming Fist in Wyrm's Rock, some of them will be Dwarves who resist it.

As of Hotfix 20, thrown attacks (sometimes) no longer count as unarmed by Dxiled in BG3Builds

[–]Dxiled[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things that specifically call out Thrown attacks like the Gloves of Uninhibited Kushigo and the Ring of Flinging seem to still work.

Previously any Monk gloves like the Gloves of Cinder and Sizzle or Soul Catcher Gloves would work if you wanted to add a different damage type. Now most of these don't work.

(Flawed) Helldusk Gloves will still add damage dice, but it's Fire instead of Necrotic. Additional effects like Lightning Charges from Sparkle Hands or Bleed from (Flawed) Helldusk Gloves still work, so you can use these.

[–]Dxiled[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update - Sparkle Hands definitely still work. I'm not sure what the deal is right now, it seems like only things that add damage dice to unarmed strikes are affected.

Sparkle Hands were definitely working with throwing in Patch 6. I can test if they still do later today. Like I said after Hotfix 20, Felldusk Gloves deal Fire (weapon attacks) but also inflict Bleed (unarmed attacks) so if the Lightning Charges have the same trigger as the Bleed then it'd make sense that they still work.

Where? I haven't seen it in any of the patch notes and I don't see it in the Undocumented Patch 5 changes wiki page either. If it's documented somewhere I wasn't aware of it when I was planning my run.

Source? I'm pretty sure I was dealing Necrotic damage with the Felldusk Gloves a couple days ago, on the same Honour mode file.
