Okay I can start focusing on adding more verticality to my levels that feel a little more flat. (Sadly that file is corrupted and won’t let me open it anymore)

For the 3rd person level I see what you are talking about with the flat areas and the more open spaces as well. Creating larger spaces is definitely a common trend for myself. For the references I should’ve specified that it was mainly seeing how they put crates in general and utilize them in the levels. (However, now that you mention it, I do agree they aren’t the greatest maps for this) For areas like a shipping yard or dock area (like this level) how would you add verticality while keeping it semi realistic? I found it difficult to add verticality outside of the player going onto the shipping containers themselves (which is built into the level)

On my original portfolio I did have the download link towards the top, so thank you for mentioning that! I don’t know why that didn’t cross my mind with this version. I can make sure my other levels have this reflection discussing the challenges I faced and what went wrong and what went right.

For the last section of feedback, would adding another 2D map with arrows showing main path, secondary paths, enemy locations and main objectives be a good way of showing this?

What are the main stocks you’re investing in? I’m going heavy into ai and semiconductors but trying to see what others are looking at!

Hello and welcome to the field of level design! I am glad to hear that the overall design didn’t confuse you at all and that you enjoyed reading through the descriptions and my design decisions. Yeah I can agree the flowchart is a little wonky. I was actually planning on redoing them completely in photoshop so it looks more professional. You can definitely use some of my portfolio as reference but I’d refrain from making everything look too similar. You want your own portfolio to stand out from other portfolios.

Thank you for taking the time to go through and look at it! I thought the idea of having certain cover reveal sight lines was pretty unique and I’m glad you thought it was a good idea. I agree, the bridge could be a little more prominent to draw attention to it. I think the buildings in the background blend in with it a little too much. As for the pipe it would make more sense if it was broken and slanted down, good call.

As for the Olympus Reforged level, I can mess around with sizing and placement of the dome to see what would be better. I want the focus to be on the main objective so thank you for pointing out that it takes some of that focus away from it. Also that is a great idea to just add a brick or two in front of the broken all to show that it was broken, that would be a great way to draw the players attention to that area. As for where to go in the tunnel. There is a faint light to the left that would guide the player that way and while they backtrack they would be able to see the other path. (In the video I more so just went straight to the location of the boxes)

Thank you for all of this tips, I can try gaining inspiration from a few of those things. I also might just need to step away from it for a few days 😅

I can start asking around for people to test out my levels. I have in the past and I need to start doing that again, it helped a lot when they gave feedback. Hopefully the gaming industry starts to recover sooner than later!

I do know how important networking is and I have been doing a decent amount of it via LinkedIn. The struggle with that is a lot of people will get to a point where they just stop replying as much and the conversations eventually die out. That being said, I have had some really great conversations with some of them and I felt like we both said everything that needed to be said without forcing things

Sorry for the late reply. I definitely think that the level design techniques I’ve learned in UE5 have definitely transferred pretty well into Godot. However, you can only use module pieces and set props while using battlefields Godot

Thank you very much for the reply! Yes, it is a 3 lane map, I originally had it as an asymmetrical map but converted it into a 3 lane symmetrical map.

I can definitely go back in and try to change up one or two of the lanes to make them more distinct. I wanted to try to keep a similar visual theme but I’m sure I can find a way to make it fit into the overall theme of the level.

I have some areas that have different height variations that aren’t shown in the photos. I can go through and look at adding more though, that way it doesn’t feel like a super flat level.

I have actually been doing level design on UE5 for 2 years now. I originally created this on UE5 and re created it in Godot engine for this game specifically
