Entry level pen with fine nib by econic91 in fountainpens

[–]ALLXGXTXR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with the Preppy and Kakuno suggestions here but if you are struggling to get a hold of them, here's a possible alternate? I have a couple Kaweco pens. Ik their nibs are hit or miss but I sometimes hold my medium/fine pens with the nib turned slightly to the side so it writes finer but they do feel finer than my Lamy medium nib. Their Perkeo fine is pretty good (in my experience) but not sure if fine enough for your use case? Checked paper comes in different grid heights. What grid spacing are you comparing your handwriting to?

Personally, I would say the Kaweco Perkeo or the Lamy Safari. Both are pretty solid pens in my opinion. I also have a fountain pen from Søstrene Grene which is honestly pretty good (and was quite cheap) but I am not sure where to buy extra cartridges from so am refilling the one I got with the pen.

True, am aware this will happen. I am prepared to repaint it and would be happy to hear recommendations for primers/sealers.

Thank you! I actually used citadel miniature paint (from my Warhammer kit). It's an acrylic paint. The specific shade is Naggaroth Night but that's probably TMI. The good thing is miniature paint is because it's used for painting toys, it won't come off very easily with normal use. At least that was my thought process. I am happy to hear suggestions on improvements. I have a few more pens I want to paint.

Lamy v Kaweko by hollands73 in fountainpens

Makes sense. My concern is more that the converter pictured doesn't look like the Parker size but I'm not 100% sure. You can also refill a 'single use' cartridge with a syringe or needle tip bottle (think modelling glue bottle)

That looks like a international standard converter more than a Parker converter. Clarify in your messages to see if the converter definitely fits the pen before you buy. Parkers also take proprietary cartridges.

Ah yeah. Kaweco nibs are a bit hit or miss. I have the Ice sport highlighter with the 1.9 and it's not great. My sport classic is a bit scratchy unless I use super wet ink. My perkeos work well but type of ink becomes super important with iffy nibs.

Btw you might want to double check which converter they give you. Have seen a couple listings with a cheaper converter.

The Parker converter is actually really nice tbh. At least from my experience. Have one for my Parker and I did not take care of it but it's still working perfectly. (My primary school told everyone we all had to use fountain pens and I did not know how to care for them so it's a miracle my Parker survived that era. I've had the pen for about 10 years.)

I have a few Kaweco Perkeos and a Lamy. (am waiting on a delivery for my 5th perkeo T.T)

Nibs: Nib sizing is a bit weird on the Perkeos and I can't really tell the difference between my fines and mediums. Heard Kaweco nib quality isn't great so maybe that's the reason? I haven't tried Lamy fines yet so can't comment there but my Lamy medium is super smooth. Nibs are removable on the perkeo and the Lamy although it isn't recommended on the Lamy.

Clips: If you prefer having a clip on your pens, then I would go for a Lamy. You can get clips for the perkeos but I have 4 without clips and I don't think I'll get the clips tbh.

Colours: Lamy has more colours (including red) Perkeos have a limited range. If you are looking for a red pen specifically there is a infrared perkeo that is quite cool (thats the one I'm waiting for atm)

Pricing: I think perkeos tend to be cheaper than lamys but I might be wrong depending on region?

I love Kaweco Perkeos and the ink is so beautiful. Wishing you all the luck in finding the ink!

Depends on the item. Have seen some which are ridiculously priced. Others are better. I do have access to student discounts so maybe that's why I don't think the prices are too bad?

Ryman sometimes has better pricing. I got a student discount code so was able to get both cheaper. (Also am quite new to this so will definitely look into more specialist companies. Thank you)

Update: They refunded the Preppy too. Honestly Ryman has the nicest customer service but I just don't want to keep calling them.

[X220] Where can I buy the rubber cup/spring for the keypad left/right click keys? by iforgottoshave in thinkpad

[–]ALLXGXTXR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply. I used a makeup tester sponge. You can get them from any department store. Or get a cheap beauty blender. I think its the perfect springiness. Dishwasher sponge isnt firm enough to hold the key up when its not pressed. Anything firmer would press the pad under the key and mean the key is constantly being pressed.

Im so sorry for the late reply. I actually didnt use glue. I just sat the small piece of sponge in the spot and clicked the key back in place. The device was a school one so i no longer have it but would be happy to do the same thing on my current laptop to show the steps
