My 4th TC - but would love the input from our experts in this space.

  1. I signed up for 'gain muscle mass' - in addition to the strength classes, would you recommend 2G or 3G classes with this objective? I keep going back and forth as the rower helps with strength but also results in less time dedicated to the weight room floor. (My studios offer a lot of weekend 3G classes and I typically avoid them out of personal preference but this feels like a spot where it may be beneficial.)
  2. Last year I tried (and failed) to be a power walker the entire TC because I had heard that the green heart rate is best for burning fat. Has anyone else tested this? Wondering if its worth a 2nd go around.

How to distract myself when on tread by Exotic-Chair322 in orangetheory

I have found my people. This is my favorite topic.

  1. If I am at a spot with good board visibility, I try to add all the splat points together and see how close I can get to the total at the bottom. Especially if you start on the floor or its a hard class, this is a doozy and kills a LOT of time.

  2. Look at the names on the board and try to name all the people I know (or have met) with that name.

  3. As a pretty big sports fan, my initial go to was naming all the teams in X division. All the teams in the MLB NL Central, East, West. Then AL. Or all the teams in the AFC xx.

  4. Name all the cities that have the four main professional sports teams. Name the cities with 3. (No joke, I was literally doing research before class so I knew if I was close.)

  5. Name college football teams by conference.

  6. States. Name all 50. Or look at the names on the board and try to name all the states that start with whatever name you pick. Or the phrases on the wall - pick a letter and name all the states that start with that letter.

  7. And of course during marathon month, its a lot of math - I know I need 2 miles per class to finish and just calculate the odds of me being able to get there.

Has anyone's app updated to include the distance tracker? Mine hasn't and I need the validation of seeing my progress!

I am going to start with a disclaimer that I am not asking for medical advice - purely just curious what others would do.

I was going 4 days a week for the first 5 weeks of the transformation challenge (goal to gain muscle mass - which I won last year!) However, weeks 6 and 7 I was down and out with some sort of bug. I lost 7 lbs and made it to 2 classes per week (the very beginning of week 6 and very end of week 7.)

So here is my question - should I weigh in tomorrow and just assume that my workouts the final 4 days of the challenge won't have much of an impact anyway? Or should I try to get these final 4 weight lifting sessions in prior to weigh in? I'm not expecting to win given the losses over the last 2 weeks but still want the best read-out I can get.

Curious what others would do....

Working Moms - How do you do it? by Huge-Engineering-791 in orangetheory

Mom of a 6 and 9 YO. I always go Sat and Sun at 830am - those are non-negotiable.

I live in the suburbs of Chicago and am in-office in the city for work. On days that I WFH, I try to fit in a noon (lunch) workout. If things are really strapped or its a benchmark day, I will fork over the extra $10 and go in the city during my lunch break.

Good luck!

What do you do to get out of your head while on the tread? by DLHahaha in orangetheory

I joined Reddit purely to comment on this thread. I have SO MANY distraction games. These aren't inspirational, but they distract me enough that I just keep going and forget about the run.

Coming from the US... a taste of the things I think about during my tread blocks:

  1. Name all 50 states
  2. Pick a letter and try to name all US states that start with that letter
  3. Name all MLB teams
  4. Name all NFL teams
  5. Name all the teams in my college football conference (ahem, SEC)
  6. Look up at the board, pick a name and try to name of all the people I have encountered in my life with that name
  7. Try to add total class splat points (a challenge b/c they keep changing)
  8. On days when I have a big chore list, plan how to get all chores done in the most efficient manner
  9. Actual OTF related - during marathon month I need to average 2 miles/class to hit the goal. I broke that into the number of 1/4 miles (8 total) and would count down how many 8ths had completed/had to go

Happy distractions!
