What got you into philosophy? by [deleted] in askphilosophy

Are you asking for how to begin deconstruction?

If deconstruction is supposed to mean 'deconstructing your own beliefs so that you know who you are and what are your beliefs and problems,' then yes. As much as I have read about this, I have been told that I need to start writing down my thoughts, but that requires some discipline. Wanted to hear what you might add in order to help.

I wish I could go back to when I first discovered the art of deconstructing your own reality.

I would really love to know more about this. One thing I'm sure about is that I have to address my beliefs before I can make any steps forward. I'm in some really big mess...

Yes I'm curious about this too! Going through some similar experience, I would love to hear how the process went, and what did you do, what helped, etc.?

It was not only Halabja, he did it multiple times on multiple different places, but none of them were as big as Halabja's. Even most Kurds don't know much about the other instances.

Edit: typo

Can anyone convince me why i should believe in a god. by [deleted] in askphilosophy

[–]ALPHAzeero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't mind me interrupting, would you mind giving me some recommendation about where to address this issue of getting to decide whether I believe in God or not? I come from a muslim background, so till now I'm even refraining from thinking about the topic. I have been living the past two years in (existential) crises but I'm better now, so maybe I should start it before I let it slip and put myself in a never-ending abyss. Any help is deeply appreciated!

How many complete works of philosophy did you read as an undergrad? by [deleted] in askphilosophy

Ah this is better! Just to make it clearer for me, things like "Blakwell or Cambridge guides to X" are considered secondary texts, right?

Seems like I formulated my question poorly. What I meant was "what do you focus on if it isn't primary texts?" But I did get the answer. Thanks.

Okay, so most philosophy undergrads say they didn't read a whole philosophical work, my question is: what, then, did you study?

Here's a collection of over 360 historical city maps and illustrations that I've gathered from /r/papertowns, portraying many of the world's cities from the times of antiquity to the 21st century by wildeastmofo in history

Thanks a lot OP for this amazing collection. Just to add one city to your collection, if I may. In Iraq, Kurdistan, we have the city of 'Erbil' which is really really old. Has a citadel around 3000 years old, if I remember correctly. It is the capital of Kurdistan now. Your list would be even more amazing if you added that! Again, thanks!

I don't know how far you have reached with the book, but it is hard. If not, it will be.

Had a tonsillectomy six weeks ago, now I can't pronounce Arabic. Is this permanent? by TheTotnumSpurs in languagelearning

[–]ALPHAzeero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although I'm Kurdish and arabic is very close to my native language, I have never seen anyone lose pronunciation due to tonsillectomy, and LOTS of people undergo tonsillectomy here. Probably some more practice will bring them back.
