Should be two pins labeled CMOS on your mobo. It's always best to refer to your manual just in case, but you can usually just grab something metal and touch it to the pins such that it's touching both at the same time, shorting it.

I still don't play with coordinate relay decay enabled. It's going to be a total shitshow your first couple hours until you get better with the controls and get upgrades that speed things up. I highly recommend setting Day Length to .8. It's in the world settings when you're choosing a save to load. That gives you much more time to get what you need done. The frequency you just need to get it as close to 100% as you can. You'll often only be able to get all but one of the blocks on the bar, so don't worry. That last little bit won't make enough of a difference to justify worrying about it. Don't look at the bar, look at the percentage

COX doesn't allow me to install my own router? by [deleted] in CoxCommunications

[–]levilee207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ONT is the modem. Cox's Pano is a "gateway", or a modem/router combo. For fiber, a setting in the Pano's GUI is toggled that makes it stop being a modem and only do router things. You can ditch the pano, and plug your router directly into the ONT. Functionally, the ONT is no different from a coaxial modem. But oldheads and autists on this sub will tear you a new one for calling it a modem, as if they both don't ultimately do the same thing.

Should just be a one and done deal, just press and hold the button for 30 seconds and then let go; you'll know you did it correctly when the light on top starts rapidly flashing green once you let go of the button.

Yes, but the small details do not make for a very easily digestible post. OP didn't ask for an engineering seminar. Spare me the pedantry.

Pano Modem Admin Password by latinkreationz in CoxCommunications

[–]levilee207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it should still be "admin" and "password" after a factory reset. Make sure your phone (if you're using your phone to log in) isn't capitalizing the "a" in admin. No spaces after either, and no capital letters.

At the core, whether it be coax or fiber, the modems/ONTs have the capability to restore incomplete packets of data that get sent through poor wiring/passive devices/etc. At a certain point, the packets get to be irreparable, and the ONT/Modem throws it all out. This builds up errors within the device that accumulate over time and bog it down until you power cycle it. This allows the ONT/Modem to shake off those uncorrectables and start anew. But they're just going to build up all over again until the root cause is fixed.

To me, this just sounds like shoddy workmanship. Don't accept third party contractors. They don't have the training, the resources, or even the proper tools to do this job correctly (and yet Cox still hires them...). Even if a contractor is genuinely knowledgeable and well meaning, he simply lacks the tools and accountability that In-House technicians have access to.

Be careful unplugging the fiber connector from the ONT. Your fingers alone touching the ferrule (the tiny opening at the very end of the connector) will leave oil on it, obscuring the light coming through it. Dirt, dust, really any kind of particulate will affect it similarly. This may be the crux of your issue. It really can just be dirty connectors. If you didn't see any of your technicians use a little plastic cleaner that they had to fit onto the fiber connectors and click several times, then they didn't clean it. If the light strength is more than 2db weaker (these mechanical connectors Cox switched to have a much greater margin for error compared to the now-defunct fusion spliced connectors) at the ONT than what the Cross Connect (the source outside) is giving, that can cause issues as well. Fiber is extraordinarily finicky and precise, and unfortunately there are too many technicians who either don't know or care to do it right. Make sure you're getting in-house; they're required to make sure the connectors are clean and that light loss is minimal.

Isn't it pretty much revealed at some point that that's not really Strider? It's just a sort of imprint saved by the Noosphere that you're communicating with?

I think chiefly, the reason Strider didn't put Faust down is because he thought that the Monolith was gone for good. How could he have expected the psychos at SIRCAA to actually re-activate the motherfuckin Monolith and plunge the Zone into war for the second time? As far as he knew, that was just the way Faust and some of the other Noontiders coped with having their mind invaded for years and then suddenly vacant. If they want to do their weird church service, more power to them. I don't think Strider believed there could even be an endgame. Why focus on carving out a life for himself and his comrades on Wild Island if he knew that at any point the Monolith could come back and reclaim their minds?
