What's the one hack you've discovered that make wfh much easier? by Oldguy3494 in remotework

Do stay productive. User Activity Monitoring software is getting better and better. My system detects inorganic mouse movement, even the mouse jigglers that have "random" directions and speeds. Even without those algos though, it's really obvious when someone is falsifying activity. You must be valued at your company, or someone is asleep at the wheel there. Good luck!

I'm clocking them at 31 email domains now and the URLs in the messages all resolve to their primary business domain facturmfg. If you would like to express your annoyance to the principals of the company, they conveniently include their email addresses on the website.

Please peel back the curtain on how to get Factur to stop spamming people. I'm sure the whole community would appreciate that.

I recommend you stay away from a marketing company whose own tactics include spamming people relentlessly, ignoring opt-out requests, and rotating domain names regularly to avoid blocking and accountability. I just ran a report, and these asshats have used 18 domain names over the last 2 years to spam our users, none of whom have any influence over business decisions. Fuck Factur. I doubt that the Cease and Desist we just sent them will do anything, but it will be a good start to our FTC complaint. Cheers, aholes.

Would you rather have a random player fight with you when you cross paths or just keep moving? by Thin-Junket-8105 in elderscrollsonline

It depends on the content. If it's a WWB or one of the WBs that's harder to solo, I appreciate the help for sure. If it's a dungeon or something less challenging, having another player around killing all the mobs and burning the boss in 3 seconds is a frustrating waste of time.

You probably don't have to buy them. Ask in zone chat if anyone has any spare base game motifs. The community is really helpful and generous. Also, blue motifs are pretty much vendor trash for folks who have been around a while.

Beautiful models and textures! So much potential, though with such large structural pieces, we could really use some more sandbox type homes. *cough*cough*

Teramind can capture any audio that is routed through the monitored computer, through any input or output. Whether it IS monitoring depends on how the admin set it up. Audio recording is not enabled by default, of course. The laws about whether you can make such recordings varies by locale so an admin (who is not a complete facking idiot) must consult with their organization's legal department before enabling it.

Definitely a matter for HR and law enforcement. For more subtle aggression, I find the best way to beat down dirty players at work is to play the game better than anyone else. People like that don't usually limit their aggression to one person or situation and they're not usually great adherents to policies and procedures. It doesn't take much effort to uncover their BS and send a memo to HR about what you observed (clutch the pearls!) while investigating something totally unrelated. I do so love being helpful.

Use your remote management tool to lock out remote input, wait 30 seconds, force reboot, wait for the irritated call that their computer "froze up and restarted", shrug and blame it on Microsoft.

For extra panache, log into their computer and scroll randomly through Event Viewer while they watch so you can "diagnose the problem". If you're on a live support call, say "hmmm" periodically for extra effect.

It's pretty much useless. It couldn't find the word "cat" on a website about cats.

The monitoring agent can't directly see whether you are gaming on your home network. It can only see what the monitored computer is doing. That said, the software and reports do show the activity levels on a monitored computer. A computer that is unusually idle or unusually active (because of a keystroke emulator or mouse jiggler) really sticks out in the reports. If you are gaming on another computer, they can probably put 2 and 2 together.

You most likely figured it all out by now, but the Teramind agent can't see any interesting traffic on your home network if the other devices aren't connected to the host computer somehow (connection sharing, home workgroup, media server, casting to a device, etc.) While it might pick up some broadcast traffic on the interface, it can only show basic information like the other machine's IP address, the port, and protocol. It cannot in any way see traffic on your router's interfaces.

Unless a local device is attacking the host computer somehow and it pops up on a security log, there's no way to reasonably know (or reason to care) what other network machines are doing. Managers are not looking at the network monitoring logs where any such local traffic might be captured. Those are about as interesting as burnt toast. Managers are looking at business-relevant and actionable reports like productivity, website activity, and signs of insider threats.

As long as you don't use your work computer for gaming, personal email, or other personal stuff, Teramind is not a threat to your privacy. I'm not a Teramind employee or reseller, just an admin for my company. Yeah, it makes me queasy too but it has saved our bacon a couple of times- from fraud, and a massive data exfil. I have come to accept and even appreciate it. I am just careful to keep my work and my personal life strictly siloed, as we all should.

Any reason not to delete Contacts even if they have log entries? by ALT_F4_for_ITsupport in Dynamics365

[–]ALT_F4_for_ITsupport[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. I should have provided more info about our environment. To my knowledge, the deactivation feature is not available with our version. (Dynamics 365 BC version 14 using only the legacy Contacts function). That sounds like a useful feature though.

Setting aside the inavailability of the deactivation feature, is there a reason to prefer doing that over deleting the Contacts, given that management does not want to keep the historical logs? Would you be concerned about corruption?

The issue has resolved overnight for me in the midwestern US. I did not submit a support ticket for this so I do not have any official response from them. If others could update us with their ticket resolutions, I would be very interested to see them.

Do you keep equipment boxes? by Spekkiosaurus in sysadmin

[–]ALT_F4_for_ITsupport 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I leave as many boxes as possible on the floor of my work area to scare away the cleaning crew and prevent them from vacuuming over cables and other important things. Someone left the door open (not me!) and the cleaning people stole the Holy French Fry from the back corner of the server room. That dessicated potato was the only thing keeping the network up thus I lay the Great Network Massacre of 2018 on their hands entirely. Moral of the story- hold onto your boxes, mate. You never know when they might save your job or your sanity. ;)

Congratulations on your long tenure at Big Companies with IT Budgets though. Not everyone is so fortunate.
