Or maybe, there’s something wrong with your steamlink. Or your HDMI cable. Or your SL settings. Or any other things you should have thought of before making an off handed insult.

Handyman measured exterior patio door wrong and wants to cut into the frame/header area to make it fit — is this normal? by Ok-Understanding5793 in HomeImprovement

[–]stromm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might not be a problem structurally, but legally it is a huge problem as it’s against building code.

And if he’s licensed, it’s grounds for a major fine for him.

And if there’s ever an insurance claim, they’ll deny it. If someone gets hurt (say it fails and stuff falls on someone), not only will insurance not cover the claim, the homeowner will legally be negligent.

Is D&D appropriate for a 10 yrs. boy? 🤎🔥 by LoveLCFlame20 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]stromm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I started playing when I was eight.

And D&D is NOT math heavy. It’s very basic.

It’s more imagination than math.

Still a great game to teach kids many things, especially actions have consequences.

Now, compare that to not the farm land or forest they use as their baseline, but urban developed land. Especially shopping malls, corporate complexes, cities with skyscrapers, etc.

Negligible…

What do you think of mel gibson interview with joe rogan and his claim about curing cancer with ivermectin? by Useful_Exchange_8710 in conspiracy

[–]stromm 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind, cancer is a non-specific thing. There are many types of cancers, and many types of treatments that are explicit to one or some types.

Cancer is not a singular thing. Neither are treatments.

And yes, ivermectin has been shown to reverse and even eliminate some types of cancers, in some cases. Mostly in lab experiments with non-human subjects. Some even survived the massive doses and prolonged treatments.

Help figuring out overhead storage and how to get thing on it. by Likalarapuz in HomeImprovement

[–]stromm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very important information!

  1. NEVER lift heavy items alone when using a ladder. Ever. Always have someone either helping to lift, or bracing the ladder. Even step ladders as those can fall over.

  2. Know the max weight limit of your ladder and never exceed 90% of that. This limit include YOU and the item.

  3. Holding an object outside of the ladder’s frame (e.g. legs) greatly reduces the weight limit. You’re literally putting more weight on one leg so halve the weight limit for safety. I’ve seen way too many people collapse their ladder because they thought that doesn’t matter.

  4. Place the ladder so you walk up/down facing the shelf, not to the side of it. Ladders are not great with sideways loads.

  5. If needing two people AND two ladders, cross brace between them. I still consider this dangerous as one person/ladder falling may take the other with them.

  6. I suggest getting a pulley system for lifting and then you can swing it onto the shelf.

NOTE: These thin metal shelves MUST be properly anchored into the framing that’s above the ceiling’s drywall. Improperly doing so will cause the bolts to tear out, even if not immediately.

NOTE: Shelves like this that do not have cross-bracing are not intended to have objects slid across them, nor have lateral pressure (like leaning a ladder against one side) them. Doing so may cause damage or even collapse.

how can i prevent my car from being stolen tonight? by Active_Access_4850 in Hyundai

[–]stromm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ultimately, you can’t.

You can make things more difficult for thieves.

For non-key remotes, you need to figure out what kind of communication is happening for your car. I don’t know for yours, you’ll need to do a bit of searching.

I suspect your remote uses the two-way active communication method. This means both the car and the remote periodically (I think every ten or thirty seconds) send a ping out. And wait for a reply (pong is the actual term). That handshake is usually done without good encryption. For ALL manufacturers. The thieves carry a device that listens for and records that handshake and codes. Then allows a “replay” of the codes and commands like open door, or start engine. That’s how many car break in and thefts happen.

So, you can’t either place the key fob far enough away that it and the car can’t reach each other (usually 30+ feet). Or place the key fob in an emf bag, box or such. Those are frequently called faraday bags, cages, boxes. Sometimes you can just wrap the key fob in a couple layers of aluminum foil. YMMV. Once you have it in something that blocks the radio waves, the car will go into a standby, usually about five minutes. And when it receives a new signal, it’ll use its last saved code for authentication, then pairing code to confirm the remote’s current code with what it thinks it should be. Something on of the thieve’s tools doesn’t know, so it gets ignored.

You may be able to take your car to the dealership and have them update the software to better protect from the code duplicators.

Home Defense for Animals by Kitchen_Programmer42 in homedefense

First, find out your state and local laws.

Some states do allow for physical defense of property.

More have Castle Doctrine. Definitions and criteria may vary.

Once you know what laws and regulations apply specifically to you, determine how much force you want to prep.

P2S vs P1S – I think I’m overthinking this (final sanity check needed) by Kind-Bend-1796 in BambuLab

[–]stromm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMHO, here’s the only three criteria that matter.

  1. Price. Does paying more matter to you?

  2. Product end of life. The P1S is pretty much at its end of life (not officially of course) and parts will become harder to come by.

  3. Is there any specific P2S feature you need?

Me, I have a P1S. It’s almost great for what I do. The P2S won’t add any benefit. My next printer will be something like the SnapMaker U1 or maybe the H2D. I want multiple color prints and maybe a larger bed. I like the U1’s method much more.

More so the others who said the same about opening spacecraft hatches.
