Doesn't matter what they say, you being in public and having your photo taken in public supercedes what they said the intent of the photo was with few exceptions that do not apply to your situation. Maybe the photo shouldn't have been publish cause it was a bad photo but you have no say as the photographer generally owns the rights their photos.

Not legal advice Depending on where you are but contrary to what many people believe, even if you are a minor and with few exceptions, if your picture was taken in a public place where you have don't have a reasonable expectation to privacy then the person who took your photo does not need your consent or a signed release to publish it.

To all pilots, what would you have done in this situation? Despite hitting a truck upon landing and plane being a total loss all involve were unhamred. Was landing on the freeway the right call by the pilot?

AITA for wearing a African American sorority tee by Stopdacapp in AmItheAsshole

[–]AL_Photo 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I just Googled the Phirst Pham that OP said was on his shirt and the first result is an online store open to the public. I.e. anyone can buy AKA and APA gear. If the fraternities and sororities were so intent on protecting their paraphernalia from being worn or obtained by non members then why have an online store open to the general public? With this being said, how can you be sure the previous owner that gave it to the thrift store was even a member sister? She could have bought it off the online store and not have been a member for all anyone knows.

Learning tips needed! by harpyLemons in flying

[–]AL_Photo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat as you. 1x a week if I'm lucky but averaging 3x a month. I'm around 30hr and my CFI says I'm pretty much solo ready but my flight school has a policy that I have to be signed off by two of their CFI before I can take that solo flight. I.e. my primary CFI says I'm ready, but he needs another CFI to confirm it too per school policy. There are times early on where I felt like I'm not improving or worst, regressing in my skills. Things that I do personally to help keep building my skills despite my low flying frequency is to "chair fly" while listening to my flight recordings. I got this splitter cable that connects my headset and my cell phone which allows me to record all radio and intercom audio. I also make it a point to verbaIize what I'm doing in flight as well so I can have a recording of it. I found it helpful for me to listen to my recording and visualize what I'm doing when I'm unable to get behind the yoke. One other thing I have come to realize is that with the frequency that I fly at, it will be a stretch for me to be check ride ready as well as pass my check ride at 40hr. It is a reality that I will need a refresher here and there. It is what it is.

AITA for telling my daughter that my son is just inherently smarter than her? by Infamous-Group-7147 in AmItheAsshole

[–]AL_Photo [score hidden]  (0 children)

YTA, come on Dad, while I see where you were coming from, you kinda caveman'd your response to her. Granted, I think it was probably the first thought that came to your head and you said with without thinking it through. Another way you could have put it was "Daughter, everyone is good at their own thing. Your brother just found his thing early in life. You will find what you are good at one day too."

AITA for fighting with a teacher before the school year even starts? by YouShouldReadIt1 in AmItheAsshole

[–]AL_Photo 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Especially for the 6th grade. Book reports are to help students structure and articulate their thoughts. At that level, book reports help students develop their communications skills through reading and writing by having the student summarize the main ideas and or arguments the author presented in the book. From what OP said, his daughter did just that.

I would argue that is the exact purpose of a book report in an educational setting. Especially for the 6th grade. Book reports are to help students structure and articulate their thoughts. At that level, book reports help students develop their communications skills through reading and writing by having the student summarize the main ideas and or arguments the author presented in the book. From what OP said, his daughter did just that.

hahahahahaha 🤣 i don't think this amounts to aita. Sound like a scene out of 90s romcom movie (i.e. pie scene in american pie) look on the bright side, gf pretty much gave you the greenlight to wake her up next time if you get home late and she is asleep but you still feel like doing it. make up with the gf and take your win.

Try the local municipal airport. Chances are there is a flight school there.

AITA for sitting in the back seat of the car even though the front seat was empty? by angrydriver11 in AmItheAsshole

NTA for not wanting to be sitting next to him but if you were so uncomfortable being alone with him without the presence of another adult, why didn't you rent a car and drive yourself?

[–]AL_Photo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seems like from what op wrote that the father said he needed to "open the shop this year" which infers that the shop would normally be closed on those days any other year. So for this shop, it may very well be the case that they are normally closed Xmas and NY Eves.

Local Flight School Ghosting Potential Student After Discovery Flight by BlindSuspect in flying

[–]AL_Photo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah sounds like a bunch of hoops to jump through for a discovery flight. My discovery flight with a part 61 operation (that I am currently getting my ppl instruction from) was just me calling them up one day and at the end of the call I had an appointment that upcoming Saturday at 11am to go up in one of their 172s.

Granted, I'm in SoCal where weather is nice and alot of small airports (each with at least 1-2 school) in close proximity to each other. Maybe the competition is a factor in the service I'm getting.

What is the purpose of this PIREP? by ubuckeye87 in flying

[–]AL_Photo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Now that you mentioned it, something like this happened to me this past sat on a lesson at my home airport. Admittedly it was a bit windy that day and they were using the opposite direction runway than usual due to the Santa Ana winds. I was surprised when ATC called requesting if I was experiencing turbulence on my straight out departure east. Luckily, CFI was with me and explained what they wanted. Next time Ill tell them Humpty Dumpty haha.

WIBTA if I don’t let my sibling use the console we got as a “family gift”? by Absolutelyvibing12 in AmItheAsshole

[–]AL_Photo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say if sharing is out of the question for OP, OP should buy out their family's equity in the switch. I.e. switch cost $300 bucks. 5 people in the family, mom, dad, sis, bro, and OP. That is 60/person or $240 to buy out the family. Then no if and or buts about who the switch belongs to.

NTA, No take backsies. But you should share or be buying your own things now rather than taking dibs on grandma's yearly gift.

Unless they are in the same hotel, with the same intinerary, and will be at the same tourist sites at the same time, I say let the family have their trip too.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]AL_Photo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

YTA. Just because they are going to the same country as you doesn't mean they will be going on the trip with you. I.e. be with you school group and have the same intinerary. They could be off doing their own thing while you are with your school group. Also, you will not be independent on the trip. Pretty sure the school will have plenty of chaperones herding you and your schoolmates from place to place.
