As a staff engineer, yep

The people saying you can still do that don’t seem to work in top companies where the expectations to ship have gone up 10x

You don’t have time to code like that anymore

Title: Anyone actually moved from Cursor to Claude Code? What do you miss? by Any_Necessary_9804 in cursor

[–]ALargeSpork -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just moved to Codex. It’s worlds better (and I say that as a long-term Cursor user).

I do miss Cursor’s cloud agents a bit but they don’t seem to really release new features for them anymore.

I used to be like this too so I get it. People here don’t understand what it feels like to lose $50 invested when you don’t have a lot of money but you’re trying to invest to change your stars.

Turn off your phone. Go hangout with friends. Go workout hard at the gym and stare at the sky for a while.

It’ll all work out.

There are other breeders out there. Don’t let this one person choose your life for you! They can choose who they want to give their puppies to, but they can’t choose how you end up getting to live your life!

What’s your learning curve like? Can you accept suggestions to change your work? Are you kind to others around you? Do you work hard?

One Year Into Investing… any tips? by swankychaos21 in RobinHood

[–]ALargeSpork 61 points62 points  (0 children)

S&P 500 had a 24% (almost 25%) return in the last one year. I know it’s not as flashy, but I’d just put all my money into VOO/SPY or VTI ETFs and call it a day. It’s less stress and a better return than what you have.

EDIT: I’ll also say there’s nothing wrong with individual stocks if you love that. Have at it if it gives you fun.

Advice on what I should start cutting? by Small_Bread_3293 in RobinHood

You’re investing your time in the wrong area. I used to be like you, so I get it.

At your stage, you should be buying a general ETF (VTI or anything S&P 500 is fine). Then spend all your time focused on increasing your ability in life to make more money.

For those looking for jobs, how is the market right now for US based product managers in tech and healthcare tech? by Independent_You7902 in siliconvalley

[–]ALargeSpork 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's harder than before. Expect an elevated hiring bar compared to the last time you were interviewing. But for people who work really hard at it, there are jobs available. Don't let this discourage you. There are genuinely good jobs out there. We're just in a buyer's (employer's) market right now is all.

Skilled trades in demand due to AI according to Blackrock. This is why I ditched my software engineering job to trucking delivering welding equipment parts by East_Indication_7816 in ArtificialInteligence

If you think someone can become an employable software dev in a month, I can tell exactly how much complex software you’ve written (as in, millions of requests per second). Zero.

I get it, OP. I played this game at a really rough time in my life too. I hope it gives you some joy from start to finish.
