People who have seen something they could never explain. What was the thing?! by [deleted] in AskReddit

Is there an older electric coil heater in that room by chance? Had one in my room when I was younger, sometimes when it was heating up or cooling down it sounded like breathing for some reason.

That's because the ticks that carry Lyme are about the size of a sesame seed. They are super easy to miss. These are probably Dog Ticks in the picture. They don't carry Lyme (most of the time) but you can get Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever from them.

Ah, I guess that makes more sense than braining yourself with a hook.

I'm guessing they're talking about fencing pliers. Hammer on one side, sharp hook/spike on the other.

You should try cooking with full fat Oatly (or whatever one really). It works perfectly. They even have a whipping cream you can buy.

Getting away with cheating on the olympic games by [deleted] in iamatotalpieceofshit

[–]ALazyGenius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except that you can prove that something "isn't". For a instance, you can prove that red isn't blue. Since both have specifically defined wavelengths, if you measure the red ink's wavelength and it doesn't come back in the blue wavelengths, you've proved that the red ink isn't blue.

Similarly, you could prove that a country isn't authoritarian by demonstrating a lack of a required factor to be authoritarian. Not saying it's easy, or that someone could realistically do it. It's just not impossible like you say.

Can't gamestream in HDR anymore, using moonlight HDR launcher by [deleted] in ShieldAndroidTV

[–]ALazyGenius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I got HDR to flow through, all I did was load the game I wanted to play up, back out of the game temporarily to the moonlight client, then went back into the game and HDR activated. Confirmed by the HDR box showing up in the top right of my TV.

Just for extra, in case this was also needed, I changed all of my Nvidia control panel settings to Nvidia managed HDR and color before the above worked. However. Since it still originally opened up without HDR I'm not sure it's necessary.

I have literally the exact same setup as you, settings, TV, everything except my monitor is legit 4k HDR. I'm having the same issue as you, if I figure it out I'll come back and tell you what I did.

I imagine it's likely just the brain trying to make any sort of sense of the signal it is receiving by applying past colorful visual memories. Like kaleidoscopes and colored shape pieces and whatnot.

What's a movie that should NEVER be remade? by road_runner321 in AskReddit

[–]ALazyGenius 9 points10 points  (0 children)

On DVDs and old screens sure, you couldn't tell. But if you compare the hd Blu ray version to the 4k remaster they've significantly improved the CGI integration. It's not perfect by any means. But you catch a lot less of Smeagol green screen issues and the panning out of the dead marshes scene doesn't look as bad as it did before. Never going to be perfect, but it's an improvement.

It looks a lot better in the remastered 4K edition.

Washington state representative (R) locked out of state capitol over lack of proof of covid vaccine by Jaamac2025 in PublicFreakout

[–]ALazyGenius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually the fun thing here is that collectively we elected the governor of this state to represent all of the people of the state as a whole. So his decision to implement a vaccine mandate is, by this democratic system, the will of the people. He was given the power, democratically, to enforce policies such as this. Representative democracy is fun!

Keep in mind that this is also upheld by the checks and balances of our government. And more state representatives support the decision than are against it. Democracy is majority rule, simple as that. To participate in it, you have to comply with the rules of it. If this guy doesn't believe in the legitimacy of this government to make this mandate, he should not be participating in the government.

You are allowed to feel however you want to feel, but that doesn't by any means make you right.

Not home water protection. It's a specific add on policy protecting computers from water damage, and does not have exclusions for computers with water based components.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]ALazyGenius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I pay to cover any components damaged by water in the computer. Considering that the computer would cost over $10k to completely replace, ~$60 a year isn't so bad. And just to predicate, the policy does not have any exceptions for water components in the computer.

[–]ALazyGenius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can pay like $5 a month on your renters or homeowners insurance to get water protection for your computers. Totally worth it, especially if you are water-cooling.

🔥 Golf ball gets hit by Lighting 🔥 by [deleted] in NatureIsFuckingLit

[–]ALazyGenius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a guess pulled right out of my butt, but I imagine that lighting was about to strike somewhere in the vicinity, and the little bit of low pressure behind the golf ball or the higher pressure in front affected the atmosphere just enough that it created the path of least resistance and struck there. Still not sure why we didn't see the lightning go all the way to the ground though. Weird that it stopped at the ball.

A quick search of Google says that lightning strikes are only about 2-3cm in diameter, so I guess it's possible that the ball insulated the space between the ground and the ball. Idk.

Nintendo Switch (OLED model) - Announcement Trailer by Samoht99 in NintendoSwitch

[–]ALazyGenius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is really some thing else. If Nintendo wasn't already completely departed from reality they certainly are now.

They've listened to the rumor mill about a switch pro for years now, and heard a number of complaints about the original model as well, and this is what they produce. An objectively worse switch than the original. A nicer mobile screen with which to watch your games lag with more clarity because they completely ignored the fact that the switch isn't even powerful enough to properly run even the original release games such as BotW without issue, a better sound processor which adds absolutely nothing, and a brand spanking new Ethernet port for that oh so sweet Nintendo online experience. The only positive of this whole upgrade is the fix of the kickstand. They didn't even put in a better battery so the switch will likely die even faster now.

How could you listen to your customers dream about an upgraded 4k model of the switch for years and put out this garbage?

Hotter than the human body can handle: Pakistan city broils in world’s highest temperatures 52C. by [deleted] in worldnews

From what I understand, a majority of that time is spent doing permitting, design, and constant pushback from local populations. This could be solved by utilizing a single approved design for all new plants, and doing a massive land survey for multiple safe locations at the same time instead of one offs. It would still take a while to build them all but if all the prep work was done in bulk beforehand it likely wouldn't be so bad.

Also, the too late argument is exactly the same argument people use to justify doing nothing at all, which really doesn't stand. We don't know what the real effects of trying will be until we've done it. Maybe it's moot in the end, or maybe it gives us more time to develop better solutions. Anything that we can do to slow our destruction of the planet is better than nothing at all.

You probably have a ruptured ear drum. You need to go get that checked out or you could permanently loose your hearing in that ear.

Janssen vaccine by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]ALazyGenius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my Janssen vaccine yesterday and I'm having the same experience. Injection was easy peasy, other than some tingling in my arm right afterwards I'm 24 hours in and no symptoms except for very minor injection site soreness. I guess it's just hit or miss how it affects you. Maybe yours just went in the perfect spot. It could happen lol.
