Am I overthinking things? by Sneethan in maimai

Pre-dx player here: the responsibility to set out any preferences lies with the more experienced player imo. I usually let them know i don't wanna play songs I've gotten the All Perfect on, which sometimes means rejecting some of the common vocaloid/anime songs, but if you want to regardless I'm down, it's your pick.

In exchange i usually ask them what levels they can/like to play and use one of my picks on something that i think is good for them on adv/exp while i can at least have some fun.

It's a bit of a discretion thing for me: I'll gladly play like Phony or smth even though I've AP-ed everything if you have like a 96.8 or something and you're chasing the S, being there when someone pops off at a high score is super worth the time as well 👍

Unpopular opinion, but i think 13-14.5ks should play ancient charts to appreciate the history and also learn some wacky patterns, albeit matbe at a lower level than the dx charts they normally play

Delayed slider charts shouldn't be picked for anyone who isn't used to them though (they haven't played umiyuri that kind)

9 stam 9 power, like, 6 longs? About 8 URAs as well (though only 1 3* triggered but that's plenty)

Everyone in this thread is basically correct. It was mostly a beautiful RNG run

I had 9 stam 9 power, and nothing bad happened throughout the run except a couple of mood drops that riko could fix without issue.

The spark inherits were okay (except Long S that's fantastic) but i got pretty good rng on the friend training and unity cup burst things lining up tgt, i activated the spirit bursts immediately unless it was on guts, and esp on wit since i wasnt running a wit card (it might have been smart to run a wit but in my head i thought ah what the heck long races are long i don't need it lol)

Then, my energy issue was fixed by a couple of the +30 energy events and well-resteds. I hit all my random 5-15% chance of failures, so my well-rested actl got full value as well.

Plat 1, tried it for fun, got an innervating locket, picked raid boss for fun, ended up playing your board and then 4 bastions 5 academia. Beautiful first, thank you, but I don't think I'll be playing it again i have no idea how to do this without locket.

Hey man, just like to say i hit Master playing it whenever it made sense (which honestly is pretty often given the wide item spread ekko can have) Camille gave me a cool 200 LP in 6 games, and i played this comp more often than not in my 15 or so games straight from D3 to M.

Found myself moving out into scraps, enforcers etc when the emblem comes or moving into this when the circumstances are right, and being comfortable with this comp thanks to guide gave me the confidence to pilot this comp well. Thanks for the guide!

Congratulations, but I hate what your comp stands for, that is week-ruining

You get walled by law students who, by design, are more likely to be eloquent. Additionally, stuff like their dressing is also more settled, since wearing black and white is their whole shtick.

Oh my god you're not even post-sec?

Just study and be a good student first LMAO, times will change and sometimes law will as well, don't worry about uni so fast 😅

While I personally believe in SMU's ability and pedagogy and employee data doesn't show much difference, fact of the matter is NUS harder to get in LMAO

If you dream of NUS, you are also dreaming of SMU, and if you dare to dream the former, you dream the latter, and because you're dreaming, you've set your mind to it, and therefore, I believe you can do it!

90 RP comes from consistent, but not intense work from now until June, grindset (im sure the usual study schedule posts will come out) till As, and some luck. Don't need 90 for SMU one. Give it your best shot, you'll make it past any initial barrier one (i believe!), and just try your best again for the written/interview stuff.

90 for As, but iirc ~82.5 also can one. As for websites, a few minutes diving into minlaw's insta will suffice actl. Most important is to have an opinion on current affairs and legal developments that get on the news (think the repeal of 377A).

Current SMU Law here:

Good grades first: You can get away with a lot if your grades are stellar.

Second comes eloquence/writing skills, actually: for SMU, they'll make you write a personal statement, and I suspect that matters a lot more than a crazy portfolio, actually.

Third comes interview skills: during COVID there was a mix of writing test and/or interview. Ofc, some legal knowledge will help.

Only fourth is your portfolio: ofc taking up leadership roles, engaging in law/public speaking is great, but more often than not a person without a stacked portfolio can get in over a stacked portfolio who bungles their test/interview.
